I have a real nice Horton 150 crossbow that I've had for like 6 years and its only been fired twice. Once by me and once by my son. I'd like to take it in the woods but my Bow is lighter and I don't still hunt we stalk game and actually hunt rather that hope something walks past us. I really got to get that thing in the woods one of these days lol

fair pay to you, its great to see kids learning about field craft, and nature.
too many kids today dont know, or dont want to know these things.
just want to be stuck in front of the tv eating junk.
keep up the good work with them.

AGK, I read an article a while back called "just take the shot". It talked about what you say happens to your son when in the woods. They said to just let your kids or first time hunters shoot whatever is legal and that helps them learn to relax because they don't get that feeling of what if I miss.
I don't know anyone who hasn't had that feeling of anxiety or buck fever whatever you want to call it. lol

Ive always been into being able feed myself when the shit hits the fan in this country ( which doesnt seem too far away with the way things are going here). I look at it this way, when the lights go out and modern society crash and burns I want my kids to not only be able to survive but thrive without modern technology. In this dooms day scenerio, i want to know they will have the tools to survive by their own hands. Many will die off when the grocery stores close.
I also just love spending time with them, im not well off and cant give them everything they want, i live check to check myself like many americans do these days but the one thing i can give them is my attention and teach them the things I know. The time I spend with them no money can buy.. ;)

I too have read several articles like that myself. He has shot many animals over the years but deer seem to freeze a lot of people up with anxiety and self doubt in their skill to make a clean shot. I remember my first deer I shot, I was shaking so much i put a 270 round in the bucks lungs instead of behind his shoulder and he was only 20 or so yards from me and I can smack a quarter at 200 yards with that gun. I know what he is feeling and try to assure him its normal and typically, once you down your first one, the next one you will not hesitate. I dont pressure him though and he will kill one when he is ready.

    thats great.
also your passing a good lesson to your kids,
and spending time with as well.
my own kids know how to hunt, fish, raise, kill, and butcher our livestock.
they take it as part of every day life.
    keep up the good work.
they will thank you in the end.

  7. I am not against hunting, in fact I hunt too. My rule though is kill only what I necessary to eat. What is the point of killing a squirl? Yes he can aim well and that's excellent but killing for the fan of it is not exactly good fr me. At the very end the line between killing animals for no reason and killing men is very thin. I am not judging anyone, in fact exploring nature is the best thing you can offer, just giving another approach.

Nothing goes to waste here, I don't particularly care for small game animals as far as eating goes however any that we shoot get fed to the dogs so they are used.

To often dads don't spend time with they kids cause they think "I'm broke/fucked up so what do I have to offer them".time you spend with them is so much more important/valuable.From father to a father big ups my man.

Thank you Sir. I have a pretty close knit fam. We always do stuff together. Like just today, my Dad, Son and myself hung out and built a whelping box. We hunt together, shoot together, Fish, build shit or do something involving the dogs or My home. I'm a recluse for the most part as I'd rather spend my time with my family and my hounds than be around people anyways since you just can't trust people these days and I don't even bother to anymore.. ;)

Its not bad at all, I don't eat them because skinning them is far more work than the amount of meat they provide is worth to me. The dogs eat them whole.

My grandmother use to make squirrel stew and the shit was fantastic.

  16. Looks like an older left handed Hoyt laying down in the one pic? Getting kids involved in the outdoors teaches them things that you can't learn anywhere else, good job! Only thing i would disagree with you on would be shooting/killing things to see what kind of shots you can make. Growing up if we killed it we ate it. If my son wants to go shoot some squirrels/rabbits then he gets to clean Em and make a meal out of it, whole lot more to hunting then walking thru the woods and shooting things. Believe there's a saying that goes" take your kids hunting and you won't have to hunt for your kids".

It's a PSE Beast. I am a Lefty, good eye. We don't just kill to see what kind of shots we can take, we do that with the targets. Head shots kill em clean. It's only Squirrels he likes to head hunt ( I hunt them with a shotgun so I myself just point and shoot), birds it's point and shoot since we both use shotguns for them and their on the fly. Deer, it's behind the shoulder. Turkey it's a head shot unless bow hunting then it's in the chest. That's all we hunt. Everything gets used, Squirrel & Birds (except turkey) go to the dogs and the rest we clean and eat. I never heard that saying before but I sure like it. ;)

  18. read my post first and then be the smart guy. what i am saying is that there is no point of killing what you dont eat. most of the people i know dont eat squirrel, now if you eat it then that is another case.
hope its clear for you now cause i can not write it more analytically.
