Couldn't hold food/water down for a day so went and got x-rays done. They wasn't able to tell at the time but a piece of raw shank bone that I used to give them every night got stuck in the intestine. Up close it looks like a big triangle and the vet said it was not going to pass naturally. Few hours and 2K later..

so what happened were they able to do surgery and remove it i am assuming they were which is why you paid so much and if so you are very lucky it did not perforate and you have to put the dog down

Yes, the bone was removed. Part of the tract where the bone got stuck was inflamed and in part discolored where lack of blood to the intestine and the vet ended up putting good tissue over it. She said it would have perforated if I waited much longer as the object was very sharp. Snap shot of the X-rays.

it's hard to make decisions like that. You did the right thing though, we had a dog that chased cars and she got her ass end ran over. Broke her hip and it cost 1500 to get it fixed. She got better, got into a fight with something bigger and meaner than she was out back in the woods. Found her body a few days later. Waste of 1,500 but she was worth it.

I feel for you those are really serious had one swallow part of her blanket it didn't take long before she couldn't keep anything down her vomit smelled of feces she was drinking but not eating and everything she ate came right back up I immediately gave her some mineral oil because I believed she had a blockage got her to the vet early the next morning they did the xrays didn't see anything .. ran an IV and sent her home when she got home she pooped and this came out. She was able to pass this on her own. Blockages can turn deadly quickly if you don't recognize the symptoms and get immediate care you can loose a dog fast. Lucky for me my dog passed this on her own. Glad your dog is doing well and I agree you did the right thing!

Same thing here. I had a pregnant bitch once that I took for two daily walks and then put her up in her pen. I dropped her lead and harness on the ground and forgot it. That afternoon I had a collar and a snap hook an no lead. I filled her up on both ends with mineral oil. Luckily she chewed it into smaller pieces and they never binded together on the way out. She had pieces of lead in her dumps for three or four days. Extremely lucky.

I just pictured your face holding that stick. I am switching all three to Costco brand next month and decided to buy insurance for all three instead. I was just really surprised to see that a raw beef bone would not digest but then again didn't see how big of a piece he swallowed.

That's rough. Tbh, you're real lucky. I just lost a good pal to a bone last year.

  9. Same thing here, my dog ate a toy rope.

I had the same thing happen to my dog. A knotted rope to was the cause. The vet didn't see it, but all of the symptoms were there. I got him home & he eventually passed it. I went onto administer metronidazole & a flouroquinolone regimine. He got better, but continues to try to swallow everything in his vicinity.

LOL Mma it amazes me I swear I have one that will inhale anything I am like really? Damn dog doesn't care what it is if it will fit in his mouth he will eat it .... Ursaminor it was crazy watching her pass all that but I am so glad she passed it because the vet didn't see it but she was really sick and I knew she had all the symptoms of a blockage. It's really scary how quickly they can go downhill.
