Irish Staffordshire Bull Terreier?

Discussion in 'Staffordshire Bull Terriers' started by Joe Vicente, Mar 14, 2013.

  1. So I was searching on google for Irish Staffys, as we adopted a puppy of 10 months and we were told she was an Irish Staffy, we've got an English Staffy, the Irish Staffy has longer legs and is taller.

She was treated badly and is underweight, we've only had her for a week, she's also had a litter of puppies 9 weeks ago with her old owners who admitted that they only wanted her for breeding and then got rid of her for free. You can feel her spine and ribs.

Now I've done some research and I know an Irish Staffordshire Bull Terrier is not a recognised breed, and I also know that some people bring pitbulls into the UK and say they're Irish Staffys and some call their Staffys, Irish Staffy because they were breed in Irland but I've also came across so many people saying Irish Staffys do exist and they're taller and slimmer than the normal Staffy...?

To be honest all this has got me confused, I don't know if I've got a Irish staffy or just a staffy cross?

This is a pic of her, she's still a puppy and very very underweight! The white with brown is my English staffy and the blue one is the so called Irish staffy, we've had some people even saying she's a pitbull or crossed a pitbull and that once she puts on weight she'll be bigger than my English staffy.

looks more like a pitbull....Irish Saffords are a bloodline/strain of SBTs... you bitch could be anything ,,,or a mix ,,,with out pedigree you can't tell what it is... I grew up before APBT came to Ireland and Iv never seen a (IRISH) SBT that look like that....

If APBT are a banned breed where you live just tell everyone she is a staffy cross and don't mention pitbull, you will always get some arsehole who will report you. They both look real nice, just look after her as you obviously do with your SBT and enjoy them both. Don't bring unwanted attention to her. JMO All the best with them.

how bout just say stafford and content yourself that you may have something closer to how staffords should always have been before the kc got involved..... and before there is a war on what i just said i dont mean a dog with unspoilt blood or without show stock in its heritage, i just mean a stafford that resembles the dogs of old unlike current barrel shaped rubbish.

Don't even say the word pitbull, ever.

And don't say your dogs a staff cross, that gives the impression you don't know what's in her, the RSPCA will be all too happy to take her away and kill her if they even suspect she was any banned breed blood in her.

There are indeed fanciers promoting Irish staffs. Quite where the origin comes from is anyones guess. Perhaps they are bred down from Game lines or had a bit of apbt put into them who knows really? It is true that there were some lines kept for field work etc. Your bitch looks like an apbt to me but i would tell people she is a whippet x staffy x boxer and she gets her colour from the whippet.

Be specific if anyone asks and don't play dumb and don't say you don't know what she is or someone else will decide what she is and the outcome may not be to your liking.

Plus she doesn't look underweight to me.

I consider Irish Staff a type, not breed, & almost certainly a name to get round the DDA. I had an Irish staff, years ago, someone reported me under the DDA / was arrested but not charged. Was lucky the police officer had a brain & a mind of his own. Very lucky. Call her what you want, but not a pitbull
