Hunting with a DA male?

Hey everybody. I just have a quick question. My male is DA towards male or female. I would like to be able to take him to the woods and hunt squirrels, groundhogs, any small game that we could do together. My problem is im to nervous to let him off a leash. If he saw another dog roaming he would be on it. I live in the country and a lot of the homes around here let there dog do and go wherever. Would it not be a good idea to try taking him to the woods or chance it? Want to be able for him to have some fun as well instead of being stuck playing in my fenced yard. Any advice would be appreciated, ty.

not a stupid question at all man, it can be tricky hunting with a fireball. if your dog wont work with another, and you turn your dog loose and one coon turns into 3, that is a bad thing. same goes for coyotes. been there done that

I understand that, i know my female and him get along and i know from experience how the feed off each other. Not to concerned with running into a bad situation of that scenario as much as the dogs that run loose. These Amish have boxers running around like they own everything. Can't even walk my dogs without running into a boxer off leash.

from what i know, a boxer wont stick around when things get a little heated. maybe you could go out tooled up with a breakstick a big stick , cs gas or firearm lol. also can you take someone with you the first few times ?

Ya i have break sticks. These boxers i think just want to play but Abram will not let that happen. Wanna be able to let his prey drive get some use. When he sees a squirrel, deer, cats, rabbits, even horses when were drivin down the road hes trying to go through the window lol. Just think he would love to get out in the woods but i worry about the other dogs that run free. I know who the finger will be pointed at if a incident would happen. Hell hes even busted out my living room window screen and bounced out after a black lab at my old place.. ugh.. man was i pissed.

    Lol exactly Lee
Jus keep him on a leash until you see a target if you can't find a safe place to let him roam

So take your dog deep in the woods and whatever he encounters to hunt will also be deep in the woods so everything is fair game. I doubt too many dogs venture too far from their home so the farther the better. That is what I do, go straight up the mountain outside the village I live in and very few people climb/trek besides me so my dog has total freedom to hunt whatever is up there usually squirles, rodent, and some type of mountain prarie dogs if that makes sense.

these kind of dogs that are d/a are very hard to hunt with . if they want a horse it will cost big money . you go away from everything but thicker woods . and good luck getting him to come back the first few or more times . the more you try to get them they will just get alittle farther ahead of you . and i like sadie's idea atleast you have soomething to look at lol .

get a tracer for your dog. they come in 50ft and 100ft tracers. basically a long lead. when im in a field thats what i do. if its wooded then you may have a problem, but if its not its the way to go. ive had my dogs chase rabbits, squirrels, quails lol, and beavers lol on a tracer. they are very good to have imo.
