What to give a pup

Discussion in 'Health & Nutrition' started by start2finish, Dec 27, 2012.

  1. Some people I talked with suggest things like adding goat milk to the feed. What do you do to your pup to insure proper growth and healthy development

  2. Sometimes like now thats its cold id add calf milk replacer to all my dogs feed. Its warm and gives them a little extra.

  3. What about vitamins, pups need a multi vitamin as well

  4. There is lots of calcium, and vitamin a d e and phosphate in milk replacer and i used a 20/20 protein/fat.

  5. You can also get a liquid multi vitamin and pour over food a cpl times a week... its a pup let it grow up before u get carried away.

If you're feeding high quality feed your shouldn't need to add anything else to their diet like multi-vits etc.

You can give your pup dog food specially made for pups Goad milk is also a good idea but pure goat milk is not god for pup Add some water to it to make milk less concentrated. The feed of pups also depends on its age.How many days old is your pup ?

  14. Puppies are growing rapidly, building bone and muscles. They need extra nutrients to fuel growth. If you want to give him milk I think goat or cow milk is best because most puppies are weaned by six month. You should give your puppy solid food.

There are plenty of high quality feeds out there that are indeed kibble.

If you are looking for a supplement to give there are plenty vitamins. If you looking for fresh food then if you have a grinder, you can get some goat, beef, chicken & deer and grind it up and add it to his kibble or give it to him straight with an egg and gradually change it and add yogurt & greens.. If you looking just for supplement get vitamins and some nupro he will do great..

In my opinion, no "supplements" are needed.
Feed a good kibble for a basic diet; with additions of good scraps from the table and raw food when you can. Burger, liver, eggs, any veggies/fruit he'll eat, grease drippings, leftover meat scraps, bits of fat, good canned food, etc. All in moderation and mixed in with kibble with warm water. Dry food day after day with just "supplement" powders and vitamins is pretty boring and not as enjoyable as a good wet meal with some scraps and raw. And it doesn't have to be everyday. My dogs learn to eat just dry food too.
