english bullterrier

in history have they ever been PIT dogs are there still any working type left.... or are they

just show type. was the staffordshire bullterrier and american pitbull terrier the only dogs used in the sport

 

The only two i heard of in the uk that were game bred was by the owner only, And these two died in is back yard off a farmersboy stray pit, Well one did the other at the vets.

Ps; I personally class these as jack russels..lol..SERIOUSLY!!! But im meant to beleive there great pets.

I´m heavly into Bullterriers and I can assured you the fighting backround is not as promoted by the common writing!
They can be tough as nail dogs if bred down from working stock and make good catch dogs but the original intention has been show and pet dogs! I could get more specific about that if you want!
Sure his ancestry was from fighting dogs but since James Hinks who´s rated as the founder of the English Bullterrier they have almost only been bred and selected for show purposes! In Germany and Austria they have been selected and bred as guard / working / hog hunting dogs up until the late 1960ties aswell as in some parts of eastern europe, but they can´t be rated the same as the game bred American Pit Bullterrier!

 

My husband and I own a few Bull Terriers. We work ours on higs and other nuisance animals. Not too many folks actually work them nowadays. I catch hell for it all the time on forums especially.

 

If you look at old pics of English Bull Terriers they look like APBTs. This leads me to believe that they started from the same stock, but the show breeders did a number on them just like all other breeds and species they have gotten their mits on.

I was talking to a dude in India and they still use them as pit dogs, they are more "old style" looking not the egg headed things you see in shows, and I dont doubt they could be pretty badass, but no APBT by any means..

 

Both Colby books relay information regarding the show breed or propaganda breed "bull terrier" and reminds us that the J.P sold and was the sole source for "game bull terriers" which was just another name for what we call the APBT and yes the two are far different from each other. In some armitage colby age pedigrees you see some solid white dogs with errect ears and snipey noses such as Pattons dog depicted on war propaganda which was a colby dog.

To me its funny cause I see the pieces fit, dogs based on demographics and function and one mans bulldog is anothers pit bulldog and another pit bull terrier and that guys bull terrier in the terms of work...

As far as digressing the breed by paper....... Well hows that pan out for everyone who intels that whopper and gottiline dogs are APBT because of paper? For me I let the work decide and as far as paper its only as honest as the man holding it.

A show breed for sure.. Few and far between are the ones like the one that saved the bullfighter in mexico

 

Cajun K9 if you are interested in German Bullterrier stuff (or what is left after the bsl) check out Bullterrierclub 97 they are looking out for some frozen seemen aswell as importing of new stock is not allowed but depending on where you are living you are allowed to breed!

 

It wasn´t Mexico it was Spain! And this even wasn´t quite impressive! There have been Bullterriers tested on Bulls that did way better!
