Has anyone here ever had a dog tear its acl? My dog hasnt been using her rear left leg so i took her to the vet and he is saying that the acl is torn. He recommends a TPLO surgery which he quoted for $3115.

Yes I have, but it was back in the mid 80's cost $450 back then. His was caused from continually trying to jump over block wall. $3115? ouch!!

Yeah $3k. There are cheaper surgeries but from what i have read the tplo is the best option.

For a hyper athletic dog the TPLO is much better than an ex cap. Price sounds right for your area. Cause is poor angulation through the stifle- dog has a 50% chance of it happening in the other leg in the future.

Thanks genevieve. It maybe poor angulation but the day before the dog was at the vet getting x-rays for hip-dysplacia. I have been told that they manipulate the dog all weird for those xrays and the dog came home real sore. The next day i let her out and she took off after a cat in the backyard and thats when she blew her acl. Im hoping it was just a freak accident because i would hate to spend 3k on each leg haha

Had to do a double TPLO for my Cane Corso and he wasn't even two years old yet. He tore his left acl in feb 2011, and recovered by june. He then tore his right acl and had another tplo in july 2011. He was fully recovered by november 2011 and is now running stronger than ever. It was over 6 g's for both of them together. It's worth it if you have the cash and i'm glad I did it. If you decide to do it Just make sure you follow recovery procedures exactly, as you don't want any complications because it will ruin everything. Your dog will have to be confined for awhile and there is a good chance his other leg will go out on him. Good luck man..

Yes I remember I was told that by the vet back then that the odds where high he might tear the other one. He did have a weak back end ever since he was a pup from porvo. He was one of the pups that survived, but was never the same. It wasn't easy saving a pup from porvo back then, many long nights.

The dog got the surgery a couple weeks ago. She was back on her feet the next morning. The final bill was ~$3200. I hope the other one doesnt go out. Expensive but impressive results so far

Go to GNC, & ask for Supercissus made by USPlabs...it will probably heal it with out surgery! Dosage for a dog is 1 pill a day with food...we used it on a buddies dog whom had the same problem as you, & his vet quoted him also a $3,000 surgery was needed, Supercissus alone had the dog back to her normal self with in a month...its really good shit, & I only speak with first hand experience!!!

I'am an 36 year old athlete(Boxing, MuayThai, & grappling), & use it myself...have also used it myself to heal torn ligaments, & to help heal other injuries, & to the amasment of my own sports Dr's eyes I have always healed naturaly very quickly!

Give it a try with your injured dog, & for yourself if you are an active fitness type of person...I highly recomend it!

I was skeptical if you were really open to honest advice that really did work therefore I was hesitant to make the above post, as I rarely post...but yet I decided to try n help you out with advice that has worked before, & might work for you!

Yeah the vet out this way also stated it to be a fully torn ligament that also needed a $3,000 surgery for repair...but who knows maybe he was Bullshitting, & trying to make a few bucks!? All I know is the owners of the dog could not afford the surgery so their dog was a 3 legged hop along dog for over a month, then when I was over 1 night they told me about their situation, & I told them about Supercissus n that it is suppose to work on dogs also...anyways they gave it a try, & in 2 weeks the dog started doing a lil better, but after a month the dog was back to its normal self!

It really is some good stuff, & if you do go thru with the surgery, then I do still recomend Supercissus as it will help trememdously with the healing proccess, & strengthen the ligaments as a preventative to keep this from happening again!

Like I said just trying to help you out...Good luck with your dog!!!

I really do appreciate the advice and i will try that out even if i do go through with the surgery. Im going to talk to the vet tomorrow and see if its fully torn.

Poor guy, that is a hefty price. I always said in the past when I was younger I'd never spend that much on a dog, I was wrong. haha

You can apply for CareCredit, most all vets take that card and the first year is usually interest free. Luckily my GF has good credit, otherwise I would have been up shit creek when old boy was sick really bad
