our dogs have had a profound effect on the English language. here are a few examples of
words that are commonly used and can trace there meanings back to the old pit -dogs.
    dog-fight / aircraft
up to scratch / capable of
    top-dog
    under-dog
there"s life in the old dog yet
    bull-dog
    bull-headed
    game
    ace / top gun
    cur
these are just off the top of my head please chime in with any more.

If anyone asks me if I am ready to leave...I usually respond...ready to roll.

aint the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.

Dog fights in airplanes are called dog-fights not because they are a reference to Pit Bull fighting, but because it resembled two dogs chasing each other to fight. That's what they do in airplane dogfights, try and get behind the other plane because the planes could only shoot their guns forward.

'Least that's what I learned. Had a couple relatives fly jets and planes, a grandpa in the war and been around war history/docs my whole life.

Lmao okay professor knowitall. Yeah it's named dog fighting cuz it resembles two curs playing 'cat n mouse'. Guess that's why they call hard fought battles dog fights too.
