all the best with your pup, good dogs are where you find them regardless of whats in the paper work stick with him let him mature as you say you get out what you put in. just becouse he is bred from "show" stock dont mean he will be useless. good luck.

I suppose you have crossguns dogs? And you are 'working' with them???

because this type isn't build for working or heavy sporting. It's selected on it's show-abilitys.
Ofcourse he will jump into a springpole. But expect nothing special, i think.
And in no any way, anyone can compare allround sporting with working.
    Nothing personal.
Can't tell you were too find a real working staff.. Heard a time ago, if you don't know too find them, you don't need to know them.

    Hi,
The dog dont know whats in his ped,if he has drive, heart etc try him out you never know.
Ive a kc and non kc stafford, both have the same fire in their belly and give 101% in what ever i put in front of them.
Get him on a good diet, exercise him right and build his confidence, you never know til you try.
Seen plenty on the shorter staffords do great in weight pull etc.x

Crossguns billy black sired a dog named sureshot one shot beyond that is a ukc super dog. Just from the sureshot dog produced a lot of agility/working dogs. There are multiple crossguns that have working type titles. However; that success may come from the bitch. In the case of the above mentioned sureshot dog, it's mother was also a super dog. All the above mentioned dogs are in my pup's pedigree

If you wanted a Staff and that's what you got then you didn't get the wrong breed, you only fucked up if you bought an unhealthy pup.
As far as coming from show lines or not and wanting to do sports it doesn't make any difference, if the dog is structurally sound then you can do what you want.
There are many people around the world that have show bred Staffords and have a lot of success competing them in sports.
This kennel in the US has a male that has as far as I know set records in weight pull
http://fireballstaffords.webs.com/ their dogs are show bred (imported) and obviously are kept fit, I think the male weighs around 29lb. I know of plenty of other owners too that have shoe bred dogs that have never been shown and are very successful in sports.
The dogs that you mentioned - Charmer - heavy dog who has sired many litters.
Graduate - dog who was run over and killed just before he became a champion.
Days of Thunder - in recent generations most peoples preference from those lines, supposedly around 18" tall, was sold to a kennel in Spain after becoming a UK champion.
Crossguns are known for being heavier dogs but it depends what else is in your dogs pedigree.

Mike I know quite a few of the dogs on there, the dogs on the dad's side are the heavier dogs, on the dam's side you have the more athletic type.

    hi yas.
    thanks for the info.
the pup was 5 months last week, and already 14 ins tts.
so he might be going with days of thunder side of things.
we will see how he turns out.
all i can do is the very best by the dog.
its up to him after that.
    atb, mike.

Like I said most people liked Days of Thunder, good luck with him Mike, keep him fit and healthy and you'll be able to do what ever you want with him, I find that my dogs are a lot happier when they are fit.

I have always said each to there own,the folk that purchase a certain type of stafford purchase it for what they desire, its so easy to poke fun when in reality the person having a dig dosnt own a dog or owns a dog of less quality or a different type,I have seen crossgun dogs that are in rock hard condition,Im not going to humiliate myself and say there game, cos to be honest folk who own crossguns staffords dont want a game dog, they want a decent pet round the house or to do dog showing, and good luck to them i say, each to there own.
    regards

Nope not my type of stafford,I gave up working dogs a long time ago,but nogz I have seen crossgun dogs in dam good nick, could they work ? i dunno, they do ok at the aces days, folk seem to class that as work,as for real work 95% of all staffords, now matter how there bred would fall apart very quickly, the stafford today is far more a pet, athletic day dog than anything else, its history is history.
