Guard dog mode

Few times when i let my 7 month old apbt out to pee at night, and he sees someone he well run at them then just bark and harass them. He will never bite or anything.

yes except when i let him out to pee. have control over him in the day even if he sees someone, but at night different story

Always keep the damn dog on a leash dont let someone get bit because your to damn lazy to put a leesh on at night and take the dog out to piss

That's an accident waiting to happen! He never bites....YET!

This is a prime example of why the majority should not own this breed!

 

have to agree , even if its a pup put that pup on a lead are breed all ready has trouble dont need no more ......some folks just dont get it and think its cool if they show bad traits ,,,,

 

does any body have any actually advise and how to work with this issue. Yes its my fault for not having him on the leash that easy to fix , but i want to know how to get him to relax and night and not be alarmed.

 

some have bad eye sight and are on over drive due to useing other senses.One of my favorites wood freak out at knight when I was around a camp fire, she could only see a bout a 10''. she would just spin in a circle looking for all the sounds she could hear.Good luck

 

Look down low behind the left ear for the off/on switch. Take the advice and keep him on a leash. He's being a pup. Be glad he dont tuck his tail and run. Maybe some trainers on here will give you some tips on training him. You might be able to train him to stop after hes been alarmed but i'm willing to bet chances are you'll never get him to ignore it. Thats what most dogs do. They bark at things. If its a hassle to put him on a leash you could probably trade him for a cat. Never heard of anyone getting in trouble for a cat not being on a leash.

 

It´s quite common within Teenager dogs that they have an "alert-phase" in which they try out what they can do!
It´s like someones passing by in the dark and he in fact is a little afraid but tries to overplay it in trying to impress the stranger!
This could end in a bad behavior as he in his eyes will have success at it as the stranger "flees" by just keep walking on!

So what can you do about it?

First of all confine him on a leash!

Second try to get his attention onto something else, would it be something to play or a little snack!
Don´t escalate the situation within being harsh or aggressive toward your dog as this would cause more upset and would give a negative result either in making him shy or overly aggressive!

See my youngsters tend to do this on a walk outside too even with strange things that they didn´t notice on their daily walk! As for Garbage cans etc......

If they start to growl or bark at something I just use to walk up there! Please don´t do this with unprepared humans!!!!!!
But if it is about strange things the most common reaction is, a few steps away they stop barking or growling and let you discover the strange stuff first! LOL!!!!

SO make him confident by introducing him to this "stranger" and everything is fine!

Thanks for the help. Think what I might start to do is go for more walks at night in areas where people are bound to be and practice what you said

 

Get yourself a 30 ft lead from the Petstore $18.99. It'll hold up just fine. This way.. you can be lazy n stay inside or whatever it is you do while hes doin his business. And still have control over him.

 

Hmmm. Is it gonna take an attack on a human or dog to make you put a leash on it?????????

Dogs are protective of their home...you can't make him not want to protect it.

 

I would shoot your dog in it's fucking cranium if it ran up on me or me and my family.

 

Not much more can be said other than leash the dog.Other than that,correct him for the bad behavior,but still leash him.It'll be protecting you and the dog both.
