I have a dog that just came back with a weak positive test for Anaplasmosis, (nasty tick borne disease) Dog seems fine, energy up and eating well, my Vet at this point is not recommending antibiotics. Wondering what some of you alls experiences with this disease is? I'm taking him in for a more complete work up on his blood to see that exact version of pathogen is/was infecting him, so any advice of what I should be looking for is greatly appreciated.

  2. I had a dog that got Ehrlichia once which is similar if not the same disease. It is treated with doxycycline for 90 days. You do a test when the meds are completed and again in 90 more days. He was clear on the 2nd test and still is today.

I would recommend the meds myself, but I'm not your vet LOL

You use the same snap test as you would for heart worms to check it.

Please check for lyme aslo, as this is a bad one. Dogs exposed may not show any symptoms until haly a year after being bitten. Wish you luck and please keep us informed. mccoy

I lost a dog to complications of Lyme disease once, 5 years old, great health, sweet dog, great worker, within a month she went into complete renal failure... Crazy shit as she didn't have the sterotypical symptoms, her body just reached a tipping point of fighting the infection and BAM! something gave and it was her kidneys, she probably had it for years... As the tick borne diseases become more and more widespread, even with all the precautions im sure most of us practice, I think doing more quarterly bloodwork instead of yearly general blood work ups, specifically looking for the Tick borne diseases might be something we think about as a MUST DO! if you catch it early its easy to treat, which is key, since it seems that so many dogs don't show the typical symptoms or might not show any years.

  7. My shelter male tested positive for that and lymes, no signs of any problems with him either but they did a 3 or 4 week dose of doxy, this was 3 years ago now, he shows up light positive on the tests every year, they said he might forever but still no health issues from it.
