oh and saiyagin comparing swimming to land based exorcise is comparing apples to oranges. The debate was is if swimming build muscle or was beneficial.my point was that although it uses diff muscles it can help build uopon a land base routine.like the some palates or yoga moves can exorcise muscles weight lifting cant.Just like swimming

Air was WAY less resistance then water UNLESS you running against the wind on a very windy day or some sort of hurricane lol I didnt say learning proper swimming technique makes it less beneficial, I guess you dont get what I was trying to say about fish and the sea lion but like I said in my above post I aint explaining it again lol.
Water has more resistance then air so naturally the work out with more resistance will tire you out faster then the one with less resistance but that dont make water a better cardio workout then running on land. You CANNOT judge same amount of time between the two work outs if one work out has more resistance then the other so your same amount of time theory is faulted. Ive done my research (time) and learned it all from Experience and found that the best whole body excercise is by working on LAND! lol.

The topic was about the benefits of swimming incoperated into his keep. My tip/advice to him was that the benefits of Land based workouts outweigh the benefits of water based workouts so my comparison is justified. Your comparisons of yoga, palates masters compared to bodybuilders or some dude lifting heavy furniture just doesnt make sense lol.

Again I am not saying that swimming has no benefits as it does, BUT if you want to get the most benefits out of your specific training goals you concentrate on the type of work outs that actually simulate the closest thing to what your training for so basically any land activities should be trained on land to get the maximum benefits out of it but if you are training for any type of water activities/sport then its best to train where? you guessed it in the WATER! lol.

Swimming can be used as a very small supplemental part of ones keep, and even at that swimming is not really needed as you can still put a dog in top shape without any water activities but it would be hard-pressed to do it the opposite.

i mostly agree with u saiyagin.the point i was making with the palates and weight lifting was to say that they exorcise diff muscles.and just because u dont normally use certain muscles doesnt mean u wont benefit from them being exorcised.and actually strengthening your legs outside of the pool can pay off big in the pool.As i stated earlier i Used to run track swim and box.so i too am speaking from experience.

Swiming is good because there is no stress in joints, that means little risk to injures. It also works his lungs in a different way than in the ground. So its a good workout but just like any other out there, you shouldnt base a keep in just one workout.

Very well said! Swimming is used for endurance and u would do other exercises for strength. I've had great success with swimming. Most people give opinions and don't know what they r talking about.

just my 2 cents... one of the greatest heavy weight fighters rocky marsiano who fought in the 1950s used to train in a pool .he would throw punchs underwater. this was not his only way he conditioned for fighting of course.... for the record he was one of the hardest hitting fighters of that era and was never defeated

  10. it helps alot i use it in my keep all my dogs swim,i start my dogs off doing it at about 6-7mths just for fun its a nice all around work out.

  11. Leon loves to swim, too cold right now to get him in any bodies of water and plus the river will be flowing WAY to fast until June. But he does love it.
I disagree with anyone who says it's only good for making your dog a better swimming. As a former swimmer myself, I used to swim MILES and MILES a day because we always had two a day practices and Saturday morning practice and I swam year round. I had a 6 pack of abs, amazing calves, and my arms/ass/thighs were toned as hell year round... I could run for miles on land too and my only workouts were water work outs and two days a week in the gym for only an hour each time. As soon as I quit swimming after highschool my endurance/stamina/ability to run miles quickly declined. Although dogs are built different than humans, the effects of swimming are similar.
