I saw your setup on the FP forum, really nice! I emailed Stillwater earlier actually and asked which would be best for a dog his size with his escaping issues... I wasn't sure which thickness etc would be good for him. Thank you!

I love how inexpensive the collars are despite their durability and quality... seriously, how awesome is that?

what collars are you using now? if you're gonna have that dog on the chain and want to go with stillwater then i'd say use one of the 4ply seatbelt collars. i've had terrible luck with the 3ply as far as durability.

i recommend going with bulldog supply
    Pitbull Collars

Regular, cheaply made nylons and leathers. The parents refuse to get anything better than that... However, if I pay for it, I get the say on what collar is purchased!... which is why I have to wait until I get a job for all of this ha

a good collar costs a whole lot less than the vet bill or neighbors property damage

Yeah, try explaining that to the two stubborn old folk...
He just has to survive in the kennel until 2011 or 2012, depending on when I can get a workers permit and find a decent job worth spending the gas money on.

The collar is 10$, yyur kiddoing right? You need a jobto buy that? You coul panhandle for a day (fyi i don't panhandle....)and clear enough loot to build your whole chain setup, a dog house and 10 stillwater priced collars.
With your dog constantly trying to get out of his coLlat, you don't think it will break? And I'm sure the cheapo collar its wearing cost more than a bulldog collar. The bulldog collar could outlast the life of your dog.

Your replys seem like you haven't done too much research. You say $$ is tight, I say don't buy Cali Jacks pit bull bible, download Cali Jacks indespensible tips.
Most of your questions were answered in the chapter on kennel setups.
Like the difference between transport chain and regular wal mart 30grade.
Blueprints for doghouses, more expensive wood ones and cheap barrel houses. Both good, different drawbacks to each. Wood rots and is better insulated, barrel is the opposite.
There is supply companies and prices listed in the book also.

Not trying to knock you, but gas $? How do you have gas money? The only place I'd be spending gas $ is to the hardware store.

You shouldn't have wasted the $ you did on your current chain setup or kennel if you really have money problems. Your question is how to stop your dog from escaping overpriced cheap setups? Well stop paying so much for crap and get the good stuff (which is less expensive), and do it propeerly

I don't haeve the link to indespensible tips, but it Is on the website here somewhere. Its a free download

I wasn't saying money is tight... I'm just a minor and cannot legally get a job yet, and my parents believe Moose is fine where he is at. The only way they'll let me change him to a chain spot, is if I pay for all of the material myself. That means, I need a job.

And I'll have to wait until next year to get a workers permit, and I'll need a car. Since we live in the country, sometimes the crappy jobs aren't even worth driving to and spending the gas money on with what you earn. The gas money usually balances out with how much you're getting paid, so it's pointless.

My parents just aren't dog-savvy... They know about as much as your average joe, and are to close-minded to want to learn anything new. After I get some money saved up, my dog will be getting a new set up so I'm not too horribly worried on wasting my breath trying to get them to listen and change their minds.

THE BEST IS to build one out of 1/2 inch re-bar u can buy it in 20ft pieces & weld it 6 inches on center so you will have a 6x 6 square for every space , know the size you want atleast a 12 x 12 lay it on flat surface , get a 6 inch peice of wood for a spacer & start welding each side then the roof/top & then the gate ,then weld the hinges , it will last forever & they cant do any damage to it , ill be making another one this summer & will post pics , each 1/2 in re-bar only cost 5-6 bucks each , i believe i spent around 300 bucks or so on the last one , but re-bar was cheeper back then.

Can you clarify this? What width? What kind of buckle?

You may have to shave his neck area to ensure the collar fits tight enough. Sometimes dogs with a thicker coat can compress the bulk to back out. Don't know if his fur is thick enough to be a factor. Shepherds seem to be experts at this for some reason.

Have you tried a slip collar? They actually tighten when the dog tries to back out of them. Also, since your dog is an escape artist, Id suggest burying the fence at least a foot to ensure he wont dig out of it. Also, as Boogie suggested, you'll need to put chain link across the top of your pen.

  17. Alma, if you look at the pics I posted it is IMPOSSIBLE for the dog to dig out of it. The welded wire fencing is nailed to the bottom of the wooden frame. ;) I've had em try but they can't.

    Oops sorry.
    1" width, plastic buckle.
1" width, metal adjustable with holes (not sure what it's called)

Then we've tried harnesses, choker (both end loops were clipped to the chain, fit him snug but didn't tigthen or loosen), uhmm... gosh can't even remember what else.

He likes to hit the end of his chain, not sure I'd want to put anything that will tight on him... I don't want him getting trachea damage or getting strangled when I'm not home.
