old tyme staff?

Discussion in 'SBT Pictures' started by Chris Halls, Oct 31, 2010.

  1. hi everyone, i have taken on an 8 month old pup from a lady who couldnt handle her. she is a bundle of energy but a lovely dog.

basically i wanted to know what your thoughts are on her breeding as the previous owners didnt have much information. i had a staff before but there are a few subtle differences with bella compared to my old dog...

    - her ears are larger and sit almost flatter to her head
    - her eyes are lighter in colour
    - she has a red nose
    - her fur has flecks of white in it (its a gorgeous colour). previous owner said her puppy coat was more of a blue colour.
    - my previous dog was a bit 'leggy' but bella is taller than that.
    - the fur on her tail continues slightly past the end of the tail (if that makes sense)
    - the fur on my old dogs belly was almost bald - dunno if this was where he used to crawl along in frog position but bellas is much longer underneath.
    - i understand that if she is a staff, her head will 'split' as she matures but the is not very bully headed

there is very little info out there on old tyme staffs (this is what she was sold as) and also doubt as to whether the breed exists. Do you think she could be part pit or do you think someone has tried to create a pit by crossing with other breeds?if so what could she be crossed with?

here is the link to her ...

If she suits your needs then all well and good. But let me point out that dogs heads do not split!!!

  6. thanks for the replies :)

by head splitting i just mean muscle development etc that usually comes with age

also iv been keeping a diary of our training progress etc and i will be hopefully turning it into a training guide type of thing but ill keep you updated on that as it could be usefull to share with new owners etc

I wouldn't worry about her breeding tell people she's a Staff X and leave it at that. Good on you for taking her on before some peddler got their hands on her.

well done chris , its good to take in an unwanted staff i got one that was getting put to sleep 3 years ago & shes turned out a wee cracker , shes loyal to the kids & i can honestly say she would take the hand of you if you tried anything with the kids , not that she was ever trained to do this but in doing what you have done you have got yourself a good loyal freind
