so......there is no guarantee that any pup you by will be good enough for whatever you buy it for, whether it be pet or working dog.we all like to know about the pedigree/parents etc.or even if the parents of said pup have no pedigree at all but you still want to buy it.now...this is i suppose a personal opinion question....so......how much is too much?? for what is essentially a gamble anyway.

pups are for the birds........by a proven dog/bitch thats been schooled & worked. That way you know its shit is worth picking up!

  4. THe percentages are better this route for sure. But, this is not a guarantee of success either.

Most I've ever paid for a pup was £250 and that stung a bit. Was looking into getting an EBT for me Mam but I couldn't find one for less than £600 with £800 being the average  I don't care if it shit gold I'd never pay that much for a dog.

It's like any other gamble,it just depends on what someone can afford to lose.Just never give more for a dog than your willing to flush down the toilet in case the dog don't work out.

I think you people don't have much faith in the line of dogs you chose. if money is a factor than i don't think owning any animal is such a great idea. it's 2010 not 1927, with that being said, if you live in your grandmothers basement and have delusions of grandeur, i say be honest with yourself and try out some sea monkeys. lol

but then you see some pups from decent enough litters going for a song and others up to $1000 or over!! and im not talking about the hippobullz.

  10. I don't care who you are, 2k a pup is hard to stomach.

there's an ass for every seat. i won't pay that kind of money either usually... but there is always an exception. to say a mans salt is worthless means you should be doing your own work,... and keep the criticism.

Life is a gamble and dogs are no different. Like deepwoodz said have faith in the line. If a pups coming down from proven workers your odds are better but still not a sure bet. If your buyin a pup out of a cardboard box at a flea market than your odds my still be good but the gamble is greater. That being said I've seen a dog bought from a grandmother who was pissed at her grandson and his big white bulldog and the animal turned out to be a phenom when it came to catching hogs. He also produced some great ones too.

$$$ is one of the last things i would consider if buying a dog. The cost of a dog is a drop in the bucket compared to what it would cost for me to be in a position to own any more dogs(eg land).

its a matter of preference, IMO anything over 500 is to much to spend on something that is a gamble. Why pay 2000 for a gamble when you can get a 2timer for the same price that you know for a fact makes the cut? Its not that money is a factor, its more of the fact that a puppy simple isnt worth that much. You have to earn that sort of value and that comes with age

I've spent over a g on a pup... and I've got pups for free. I've also turned down well bred free pups to turn around and BUY an expensive pup.

It's all about what "I" want. I want my dogs bred certain ways, not just bred "good".
Some people are happy just to get a good dog, I want good dogs bred the way I like.

I got a great dog for $200 out of the newspaper. And I've got bunk out of expensive dogs... I don't regret either, it is what it is, BUT I'm willing to pay for what I want/need at the moment, even if its just a gamble.

THUMBS UP, BOC Knls. I thought I was the only one that thinks that way. You've got to have a PROGRAM and when you run into what fits YOUR yard then go after it. If you have seen, bred, or read that certain lines can be linebred, inbred, tighter than others without losing their traits then get you 3-4 females thru that line very tight and then go and find the STUD you want. FEMALES= GAMENESS..... STUDS= TRAITS.....JMO. I have seen many females that get a bad rap because the owners wanted them to work with what was on their OWN yard instead of what maybe was down the road. If you are smart enough this is a good way to pick up a good female for next to nothing and all of a sudden she is a TOP brood bitch when putting the right stuff to her. So the way I see it is, sometimes it is the owners fault, but the female gets the bad name of "SHE NEVER PRODUCED ANYTHING"

I guarantee everything that comes off my yard whether it is $1000 or I give it to someone for free. I've only had to replace a handful.
