i'm with the OP. if you can't contain your animal, you don't need it.

I'm agreein with the OP. i'm personally not poppin some stray in the street just because but i wouldn't protest if all the shelters euthanized the animals instead of spending money to feed and house them.

there is a difference between a loose dog and a stray is there not? containment neglecting is one fault but for the puppy peddlers producing strays that end up in shelters or on the streets it's another ordeal correct?

We have shelters for a purpose, just like we have a homeless shelter for us humans should we kill them all as well? and all the children who are starving out there because it's not our problem? who the HELL are we to determine life or death for those less fortunate including dogs that did not asked to be produced and abandoned on the streets? if the dog is vicious attacking people's pets then sure kill it, but just a stray? no not for me I have a heart sorry.

as stated before, i can't compare dogs and humans -- especially like this. there's no comparison. and honestly, there's no place for so many strays -- and that includes a bunch of loose dogs due to owners who can't keep them contained.

the pound cant keep every dog they get.there is no good answer.ether you make laws and take our breeding rights or 1/2 thats breed gets put down.unless people stop breeding for money its only going to get worse.hell i looked on the shelter site lot of the dogs are the same breeds that always in the paper for sale$.i hear crap like i cant feed my one dog but i live in a 200.000 house and i cant afford 20 a week.ether way it sucks.we all have the right to breed therefor everyone thats breeding for money cause you can, cause you want one off your dog that dont consider the rest of the litter will always keep the problem going.i say every dog has so long to get a home then sorry about your luck.

Poof! It's now a perfect world, and there are no more strays.

However, life goes on, and people have their issues. A family has to move because they are losing their home, they can't find housing to accommodate their three dogs.

A couple gets divorced, and neither can find a home that will accommodate the dogs due to breed restrictions.

New parents no longer want their family dog, no time for it, the baby is more important.

A child in the household suddenly develops an allergy to the family dog, and tying it outside isn't an option due to tethering ordinances in town.

A boy goes off to college or the service, leaving his dog behind with his family, who doesn't really want the dog.

A breeder/owner no longer wants to be in the dogs because of the restrictions, laws and accusations that come with owning the breed.

Who gets these dogs? These aren't the strays that are now gone from your perfect world. These are still dogs that are losing homes because of extraordinary human life issues. Where do these dogs go?

    There is no perfect solution.

in all those situations its the owners/breeders responsibility to place the dogs in a new home. if they cant i have no problem with the dog being pts.

Not all vets will euthanize a dog for a private owner "just because". To euthanize just because an owner doesn't want a dog, not because the dog has behavioral or health issues, but to just to rid it of its existence, would have to violate some kind of moral and ethical values for a vet, it would seem.

In a perfect world, sure, these dogs would be re-homed, through a shelter system, but didn't the OP rid us of that? It's no longer an option.

What are other ways these dogs can be re-homed or networked now?

My female got into a little something with another femlae pitbull that got out. Lasted about 30 seconds and the owner pulled up in his truck and helped me break em apart. had blood all over my arm and shirt . . the hole nieghberhood lookin at us with our dogs fighting all because the guy couldnt contain his dog. maybe the vet bill he had after teached him something. dogs ear was ripped in two. actually 2 got out , but the male ran up to my female and turned around and took of the other way. then the idiot when its all said and done puts the black dog in the back bed whenim walking by with my dog

in a perfect world people would take care of their animals. However what I was saying was its those owners/breeders responsibility to find new suitable owners and rehome. Not a shelter system's. I don't have a problem with unanted aimals being uthanized. The money saved could be allocated elsewhere

I am wondering the same now......so if someone turns over to a shelter and murders all the strays wouldn't that be power to that person  what serves no purpose to you and I needs to be destroyed correct? it's pure selfish sounding to me and if money is your reason to conclude that this whole theory is correct, money is irrelevant these days while someone is spending $2,000 on a 63" tv someone else could use $2,000 to pay for the roof over their head. Most shelters are non profit organizations anyways so maybe you all should complain to the people who are trying to re home these "strays" the right way since the peddler down the street couldn't do it correctly the first time and to the supporters who profit for these animals to find permanent homes other then choosing to murder them. I agree there is no perfect solution yet, there is also the wrong way to strive for that solution all together. This reminds me of the pearl harbor attack...we thought throwing all Japanese Americans in a concentration camp would serve as the right thing to do since we were attacked by the Japanese...it's foolish.

I don't think we need to question or make it to be that humans are humans and dogs are dogs, it's called LIFE so maybe it's a good thing we have poachers out there it's just wild animals out in nature....some of you people need to re think how you appreciate and respect life when it comes to such a subject.

    Time = Money

Even if it's non profit, it takes some kind of effort to run one of those organizations. There is much more to be concerned about than "overpopulation" of dogs. hogs overpopulated down here in texas, them things are now pests and can be killed on site no matter the method. I'm not saying dogs are pests or to just go out and kill every stray at all. I'm saying give them a chance, ok no one picks him up... Euthanize. All the foster and "adoption" efforts are really pointless imo, when you can find yourself a pet at the pound, shelter, breeder whatever. i am in no way cruel to any animals, if i own a dog or am caring for a dog i feed it, water, house it, worm it, train it and care for it like any other dog fancier would but if i no longer have a purpose to own this dog, why not just put him down? cullings not only a way to get the dogs you want and get rid of the ones you dont, its about pop control too... unwanted/undesired dogs shouldnt be here. In your mind then, breeding in ITSELF must be inhumane since we are selecting partners for our dogs instead of letting nature run its course, and we are altering these dogs genetically through selective breeding instead of just appreciating them.

appreciation is one thing, priorities are another

and you say its not a human:dog question, but you really seem to like making comparisons between the two...

    "murder"
    "pearl harbor"

come on, you are a joke dude... pearl harbor? id love to see the reaction of a war vet or his children when you make this dumbass comparison... you'd probably get your teeth sunk in.

what about feral/stray cats ??? you wanna become the next cat lady? theres about 10 around here I'll ship them to you my friend, so you can get started... lol

hello.....CONCEPT and not comparison geez, I have all respect for veterans what the heck does that have to do with our GOVERNMENT shipping off Japanese AMERICANS into concentration camps just to feel like it's the right thing to do when we were attacked?

I never stated that these shelters don't KILL any of their dogs did I? they do and have and will that's the basis of a shelter the effort to TRY and place their animals not just bring them in to kill them for no apparent reason PRIORITY = spay/neuter for them and I am not against this method because there is only so much we can do to place every single stray into a forever home. I am not foolish to believe that everything will live in peace and harmony so what is it that you are trying to prove through my perspective? breeding and breeders are also another call when it comes to this, you have actual breeders who deal with the breeding program accordingly which involves selection and culling and then you have peddlers where are strays come from. Appreciation is not a one notion answer buddy, I appreciate effort the effort to try so what is the priority for us to do according to you? kill all the strays correct? well get started then what are you waiting for it's a priority! LMAO I guess my parents didn't raise me correctly to make it a priority and kill animals in shelters that actually have given some people that cared to go out and adopt one and love that "stray" until this very day.
