OHMIDOG! : Can dogs be racist?

WorldNetDaily was among those asking that question this week after reports that Jenna, a German shepherd whose owner admits she doesn’t like non-whites, was stabbed by one of the owner’s employees.

The attack cost Jenna an eye.

“The dog reacts to black people, Hispanics, anyone who is not white,” owner Paul Tocco, who runs a family-owned oil-delivery business in Yonkers, told New York’s Journal News.

One of Tocco’s employees, a black handyman named Andrew Owens, became annoyed at Jenna’s incessant barking, and reportedly*”egged on” the dog before charging at her and slashing her eye with a 9-inch folding knife.

Detective Ken Ross said Jenna, a four-year-old guard dog, was cut “over the right eye, all the way down to the socket bone.” Ross said*Owens “never liked the dog. The dog did not bite him (Monday). It appears everything was done out of anger.” Owens allegedly had threatened to kill the dog in the past and claimed Jenna had bitten him last year.

Owens was arrested and charged with felony aggravated cruelty, as well as fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

Tocco says he*never trained Jenna to behave that way. He said it wasn’t fair to call his dog racist or prejudiced. Jenna* just “doesn’t like minorities,” he said.

well ill say this......my girls dulce LOVES black guys! lol everytime one of my black friends comes over she's all over em! lol i mean she loves everybody, but she's just SUPER friendly to my black friends.

loco on the other hand, has a lil racial tension running through him (eventhough he was always around black folks growing up!) i can bring him around the homies when he's on leash. but when he's in the car & were at a stoplight and some black folks cross the crosswalk in front of us, he'll flip!
so yes i believe that dogs can be racist, cuz i feel that my boy has a little bit of racial tendencies! but hey were workin on that, im tryin to teach him that hate is an ugly color!

I have owned two dogs over the years who were "racist" one was a blue heeler, and it hated anyone of colour, as a pup on one of our farms where the dog was brought up to work, two of our staff were indiginous Australians on of them hated dogs through and through, and by the time it was one year old it hated both of them, the "dog hater" would curse the dog and a couple of times we come across him in a situation where we would say he was kicking the dog out of the park for the dog just trying to be friends altough we never caught him in the act we asummed because on returning to them after they were alone the dog would be different.It would be giving very summisive pose's and would cringe when we would put our hand out to pat her. due to the nature of the dog we took it home as a house dog as we just figured it wouldnt be stable as a working dog. once back at home it would be all good until a couple of friends i had who were Maori came around to pick me up, the dog had never met them before but bailed them up at the door and lunged at the closest guy.
on speaking to the oldies about it mum then said whenever she was out running with the dog it would growl at anyone of dark colour she just figured it was trying to protect her.
took us a while to put the peices together but we think the worker would abuse the dog at any chance he got when alone.
I had at least four or five good mates that were "black" or close too and a couple of my dads friends were of African decent, so we decided to put the dog down.
she was a good dog in everty other way and one of my favourites out of the thirty or so ive owned that wasnt a bulldog.

Ive had one other dog similar but we got it as a one year old so i figure its had a similar situation to what the other dog have happen too it.
neither dogs were "racist" they just related a darker person to fear and pain and reacted in a way it could protect itself. shame realy.

 

idk if they are racist or what but i met BR at a waffle house in Murfreesboro to pick up a dog of his i have on my yard and this black dude was walking through the parking lot and as soon as the dog seen him she growled and barked a lil bit seems like BR raises racist dogs to me ahahahaha

on a side note Red ? was out of teh car on his lead and as the dude walks by he says this no bullsh1t maybe bc he heard the growling and thought it was from red "Them rednose dogs will get'cha" LOL

as i have said before i dont post peds online and #1 reason i wil not post this ped is because it isnt my dog and i do not have permission but i know that on another thread he posted what she was out of colby's jude x ch. princess easy to find the ped but im not personally posting

No, they can't...they don't have the power or thought processes to be racist.
However, dogs are smart and sensitive creatures who often reflect the attitudes and training of their owners or form associations based on their experiences with certain people/groups. It ain't rocket science, and the whole question is surprisingly ignorant.

 

Can dogs be racist? No. That is to complex for dogs to understand...
