i think i heard bayer tree and shrub can poison your dogs. they changed the ingredients or something. any truth to that?
will equimax hurt your dog if it has heartworms? I know your not suppose to use a lot of this stuff if your animal hasnt been tested. thanks

i have no idea about the bayer tree and shrub thing. i couldn't find any that didn't also have fertilizer added to it, which i certainly wouldn't put on my dog. im still trying to find the fertilizer-free stuff.

and yes, equimax can kill your dog if it is heartworm positive. any higher dose ivermectin product can potentially kill a heartworm positive dog. i've had to watch a couple dogs die this way when i worked for a vet. they drown in their own blood. not a pleasant thing to have to witness. :(

Bayer tree and shrub is safe to use on dogs. It has the same active ingredient as K-9 Advantix. Use 3cc/ml for every 10 lbs of body weight. I know numerous people who use it.

    Thanks Eljay...

Has anyone used Durvet Triple Wormer (pyrantel pamoate/praziquantel)? I bought some yesterday after realizing the Safe-Guard I been using doesn't kill the common tapeworm that dogs get. I've been using the Safe-Guard granules quarterly which had to be given 3 consecutive days, as for the Durvet Triple Wormer i'll just have to give a tablet once. Thought I'd give Durvet a try, so those that have used it, pls chime in :dogtongue:

That Durvet stuff looks pretty good. Won't kill whipworms like the Safeguard does, but it will definitely get rid of the tapes. But I'd only worry about tapeworms if you are seeing them in your dogs stool. And you can alternate the two different de-wormers if you are concerned. Using both alternately will take care of all parasites except coccidia.

Let me know how you like the Durvet stuff

Anyone use Diatomaceous Earth? It says on the site, "[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular]It can also be used as an organic wormer and will kill any worms or parasites the pets may have."

    TEST ON A RABBIT FIRST!

LOTS OF THINGS SAY SAFE FOR PETS, THAT ARE LATER FOUND NOT!

APPARENTLY SEVEN DUST, AND THEN AGAIN MAYBE NOT?? will i try it now knowing the risks that mabe brought with pestacides,(not unless tested on something that i can afford toi loose,), SEE FOR YOUSELF WITH SOMETHING YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOOSE FIRST...

IT ITS SAFE EVEN BETTER THO!! I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THE STUFF, AND I THINK , YOU'D SEE MORE OF IT IF IT WORKED, BUT MAYBE ITS A NEW THING, I'M NOT SURE, JUST BE CAREFUL, ;)

It's not a chemical pesticide. It kills the bugs mechanically buy lacerating their exoskeleton and then the powder soaks their fluids up killing them by way of dehydration. I'm not saying it is 100% safe, but you seemed to think it's a chemical compound. There is a swimming pool cleaner one and a food grade one. I just know what I've read on the site just wondering if anyone had experience with it. Thanks, though. I will try it on someone else's dogs. LOL

yeah first i've ever heard of it, ? heard of something like it, but never seen it, used it or known someone that did use used it( i think it was mentiond on this sitte before probably), just figured it was chemical, but it de-hydrates other thing like worms and what not,

would it do the same to the dogs feet, what aboput dirt eaters, or dogs that flip bowls then eat?

like i said i know nothing about it, but better safe than sorry when you got a sick bitch or litter of sick pups cause there kennels got " the de-wormer soil"

, I'd rather use de-wormers and move chain spots often then try without testing on something, i wouldn't take no "soil makers" word on it is all I'm saying.

and who says its okay, the paid Veterinarians that see the animals either way??.... like to know more about it and pros or cons of it though...

you'l get faster results the smaller the animal for a poison test!

but lets say you were to tested a new "chemical based" worming solution,

A Dog COULD/MAYBE/WHO KNOWS? take up to a year before you would no anything as long as they got fresh water, and good food. you might not know for a while, doubt it acts like antifreeze you know...

but if its been used for years without issued, I'd use it.

    COOL FIND EITHER WAY!;)

The feed shop owner been using Durvet and she's been satisified with it. I've had no problems with Safe-Guard, just got a fecal test done & it came back clear of worms. Decided to give Durvet a try since it seems alot more convenient since it's only administered once & it' also alot cheeper :D. I'll probably will alternate just to be on the safe side. I've been using Albon for the coccidia. I'll definitely keep you updated on the Durvet. Thanks again for the info.

I've also heard others using it to treat their yards for fleas and ticks. Not sure if it was the food grade or the pool cleaner type. Here's some good info on food grade DE.
