mister, how did you get that the term "Americant Pit Bull Terrier" is a generic term? The breed American Pit Bull Terrier is just that...the American Pit Bull Terrier (sometimes abbreviated to the A.P.B.T.). Term "pit bull" is a just a term used to describe, well to put in laymen's terms, a bunch of dogs that kinda look alike. Whether or not the term "pit bull" was used specficially to mean the American Pit Bull Terrier in the past, it is not anymore. People with Am. Staffs say "I own a Pit Bull". The government says anyone that owns any of the aforementioned breeds owns a "Pit Bull". So the term "pit bull" no longer specifies the American Pit Bull Terrier.

And to answer the question why I don't like using the term "pit bull", well it's b/c everything that somewhat resembles any of the bully breeds is now a "pit bull". If someone gets bit by a muscular catahoula, it's a pit bull. If someone gets bit by an oversized Boston Terrier, it's a pit bull. So I strive to make a distinction that not ALL muscualr, stocky dogs are "pit bulls" & to help educate people that there are many, many, many breeds out there that are categorized as a "pit bull", but are not. And the reason I call my dogs American Pit Bull Terriers is b/c that's what I want people to see them for what they truly are....APBTs. They are not Am. Staffs., nor Staffy Bulls, etc. & I want people to have a clear understanding of the American Pit Bull Terrier & realize that it is a unique breed of it's own & should not be lumped into some generic cateogory making it easier for the hand of extinction to come along & carry them away.

Oh, & my one of my biggest pet peeves is when someone asks someone else "What kind of dog is that?" and that person replies with "It's a pit.". UGH!!! If you don't know what your dog is or cannot properly state the breeds name, then think of getting a "Rock" instead (aka Rottweiler).

Most of us dont say ''pitbull'' because they arent ''pitbulls" or "pits" or "pitties", they are an American Pitbull Terrier. Also we dont say pitbull because that is like mentioned, a generic term that could be used to an American Pitbull Terrier, AmStaff, or Staff Bull. All three are very diffrent breeds and shouldn't be labeled into the group ''pitbull''. We say American Pitbull Terrier to show we arent associated with these thugs walking down the street with an 85 lb. mutt with a huge head and huge chest who say their dog is a ''pitbull''. Basically, we dont use the term because its too generic and it sounds less professional, people automatically get scared when they hear pitbull alot of the time, however if you tell them what they really are......an American Pitbull Terrier, than they are less leery of you and your dog, it knocks down the prejudice so many people have on our dogs unjustly.

About 15yrs ago a friend of mine had a litter of pits and wanted to know if I wanted one (Colby's I think), but I was one of those ppl that thought they were unsound, mean and biters. I wish I had known what I have learned in the past 6yrs. I would have taken one. You have to overcome the fear and learn about what you fear. I will never own anyother breed of dog, the APBT is forever my friend and family.

Hummm!!! Knowledge and wisdom both! Impressive. I only thought I was on the best Pit Bull Forum on the net, now I have no doubts. I've been guilty of the same thing, I guess we're never too old to learn. Not suckin' up, just giving flowers where flowers are due.

  6. I heard that is the new thing in California.... mixing bull mastiffs with APBTs

  7. Oh how I agree with you 100%!!!!!! I refuse to call my dog a "pit bull" - she is an APBT. I find it offensive to call her a "pit bull", as do many of my relatives and friends. If I have to say "pit bull", I put it in quotes. Ha! I also make sure when writing senators and such about banning the "pit bull" that I explain that that is pretty much a derogatory term for any bully breed and bully breed look-a-likes.

No I just was ill at the moment I am ok now...Damn cur breeds just ruin our good solid stable "gamebreed" by changing what we originally bred for in the UKC...IE...Gameness... has turned into a color, size and conformation circus side show and ruined our name and idenity as a good, social, game, family dog ideal everywhere and which this country use to love but now despises because of the BYBs and cur breeders like them. What you mistook for confusion was really just my desire to help the gamebreed rotting away in my skull because of ignorant people..that breed for all the wrong reasons...

OK I am no longer a white american male I am an "American Whitemale" also known as an AWM but not a WAM like some other males that also look white just like me are called but they but are totally different and we take offense when mixed together...Doesnt this sound dumb...and it is people who think this way that lumped them all together to begin with ...I think it is time for the Staffs , BTs, ABTs, and other cur crap to leave the party... And people wonder why there is confusion to what kind of dogs bite and are aggressive... theres to many to distinguish... TO MANY SEPERATE BREEDS LUMPED AS A WHOLE... and I always heard a breed is a group of dogs with 5 identical homozygous litters... right??? or has that changed...so we are lumping gamedogs with all these curs...jeez and we wonder why we have bad press about our dogs... we are out numbered in droves by man biting giant ass mastiff crossed curs with no real right to be called a pitbull or anything even similar or even be lumped in the same folder as a game dog it is not fair and ruins our breed idenity...it is them and their dumb breeding psychology that is doing it and causing bad media and press

hey hand me the blue crayon...no not this one the other blue one, wait no, yeah that blue one, the freaking blue one right there!!!. NO THE OTHER ONE!!!~Colorblind Man

I truly wish as I read on another thread that someone would open another business like ADBA but only register "game dogs. Dog that have been bred true to the original standard. No Staff, Game dog crosses. It could be called AGDA.

American Game Dog Association. I would love to be the guy to do it but, I don't know the first thing about it.

As a matter of fact, when my wife gets home (she is truly the brains in the family) I'll see about getting this going.
