The Rottweiler has always been a favorite of mine for a multi purpose working and family dog. However, I recently met my neighbors Kangal and I have to say it is a mighty fine family dog. Very cautious of strangers, protective and surprisingly gentle with kids. I don't know how well they work though. Any one here familiar with this breed?

What are some other heavyweight (100 lbs +) breeds you guys fancy?

the damn dog needs a proper harness to pull something that heavy and it looks as if he is pulling down hill anyway but these dogs are very strong and very big so im sure they can pull a hell of alot of weight

and i gaurantee you put another kangal in front of em and that thing is moving alot faster. it aint downhill cause you see em stop and the tractor stops. i was very impressed with the kangals hold ... of course the kangals that did want to fight. this being in countries where it is legal to match dogs

+1 on that. A buddy of mine has one, very smart, strong, tough and very clean! He grooms himself all the time, it's like vanity is a trait of the breed lol.

For me its definitely the Caucasian Ovcharka!

I fell in love with this breed some years ago. I have been researching for about 3 years now everything involving this breed.

The Caucasian Ovcharka is exactly what I am looking for to protect my family and I (along with my 12 gauge) when we move into our new house (its in the middle of the country with no neigbors in sight). So I will be getting a male and a female the second we move in.

Trust me, this is one breed that I know a burgalar would not want to get in front of. This breed also is NOT for everyone. These are very serious dogs.

Man I look forward to getting my two new additions to my family!
