I have been feeding my guy Taste of the Wild since he was 8 weeks old. He is now 6 months old and based on his weight (41lbs, I wish he would stop :(), the label says to feed him betwen 3 2/3 cups - 4 2/3 cups. That just seems like a lot. I have been feeding him 3 cups daily (1.5 twice a day). Should I stay with 3 cups a day or up it to the recommeded amount?

As you can see from the chart on the packaging, I was doing good when he was 30-40lbs @ 5-7mos (first underline). But now that he is 41lbs (second underline) what are your thoughts?

Forget what the bag says.It really depends on the dog itself. Can you post a pic?

They are in the business of selling dog food so you may not need as much as they say. Just go off how the dog looks imo

Thanks for the replies. Visually he is looking fine. I will need to take some updated pics later today.

Newb Q's - how much does the amount you feed them dictate their adult size? (I personally do not believe over feeding him would make him grow larger or vice versa, but I thought I would ask).

  5. it really depends on first listed nutrients on the package, and how active your dog is...there is no sense in feeding your dog higher protein food if he's sitting on his rump

    post a photo

I feed my dog about 1/3 less than what bag says and shes active and maintains her weight.

No,not at all.But starvation/malnutrition will effect the dogs growth, and overfeeding can effect joints and such.

I have dogs on that food and they get 3 cups a day each. Like the others said it depends on the individual dog.

Why do you recommend it? What in particular do you like over TOTW? What formula are you using and comparing to?

I NEVER follw what the bag says. It always depends on the dog in my experience....

I never follow the feeding directions on the back!

Adults - I start every dog with 2 1/2 cups along with a 1 cup of water. I adjust the feed by eye every couple of days, if he looks a little thin I add 1/2 a cup....if he looks a little heavy I decrease by 1/2 a cup.
    This is just for maintenance!

Pups - I feed 2 cups of kibble along with 1 cup water in the morning and evening till there a year old!

    YIS

Also, I have fed the Timberwolf too, but it cost me around $60 for a 30lb bag. TOTW is only 45 and I am feeding 5 dogs on it. Timberwolf is good food just too pricey for me.
