Are you saying this dog is some kind of man-biter? I'm hoping not. Last I time read about Lil Bit, you were defending her for reacting negatively to someone trying to pet her at a dog show. Now you're saying someone being with the dog for 24 hours can't even put their hands on her? Or am I misunderstanding this???

Bring lil bit back to her home state and pack yourself a bag as well, I'll get her right, tell me what you need her to do and I can get it done in about 6 or 7 weeks. Food is on me but if you drink beer we can go half. Im dead ass serious.:)

I'd be curious as to what can be done about dog aggression in a game bred APBT. I know a lot of people are all about "They are supposed to be that way, leave them alone!", but training is still training lol

At my training club we just finished training an Akita/Chow mix in order to control his dog aggression. If you know anything about Akitas, you know they can be just as dog aggressive as APBTs...This dog wanted to kill every dog in sight. It took a few months, but his owner got him to a point where he could walk right past other dogs and do friendly strangers (sitting next to his owner while she shook hands w/ a person with another dog). Now, he still isn't "safe" around other dogs in a sense that he can go to dog parks and greet other dogs on walks, and he'll probably never be that way. His owner just wanted him to be about to ignore other dogs and not cause a scene.

The way they accomplished this was teaching a focused heel, which is in the picture below. Basically the dog is taught the command "heel" and that is the dog staying in step with the owner, no matter what direction she goes and to keep a steady, focused look at her face. If he was keeping his focus correctly, he wouldn't have time to focus on other dogs. We didn't introduce other dogs or distraction right away--but once we got a solid heel, it was fairly easy after that. He was corrected for breaking the focus, not neccessarily for going after the dogs...

With all due respect Marty, I didn't start any of that last mess. YOU did by calling some guy out on the board for him saying Lil Bit tried to bite him at a show & it went from there. Don't you remember??

As for myself, I HAVE met one person dogs as well as protective dogs. Most house dogs do tend to me more protective. Heck, my house dog will rip someone a new a-hole if they try to hurt me. But he is ALSO an AKC CGC & as long as you aren't acting in an aggressive manner toward me, anyone can come up & pet him! I never met an APBT that were so vicious a person could not touch the dog after being around the dog for a day & I have never met an owner who would be proud of that.

    But whatever.
