sorry but i don't find it funny that the poor animal has to live through a life of suffering. genetic defects are a terrible thing to breed for. i knew this one person who though it was a chance of a lifetime to breed to a dog like that. i tried to explain to her how the dog was genetically defective and how it would be cruel to bring more dogs like that into the world; of course, she didn't listen. :( everyone is entitled to feed whatever they choose. i just wish they wouldn't consider defects a admirable traits. to each his own though. no amount of reasonable explanation is likely to change their mind.

I just wish Ambull breeders would cull harder. CD is part of many breeds - the Dachund, the Bassett, the Eng. Bulldog & yes, ours (the Hall dogs are notorious for it).

In the other breeds, the CD is *usually* kept in check by sound breeding practices. But the bully breeders have some kind of grotesque competition going on amongst themselves to see who can produce the dog with the shortest legs & you get freaks like the one pictured above.

  4. I thought that dog looked like it had that dwarfism gene going on, those dogs just look painful but apparently "freaky" is a great selling point. Sad.

I dont think Buck was bashing. That is funny, not really the poor dog, I feel bad for it, but the idiocity of breeding and prefering something like that.I may be wrong but that is no genetic defect, that is a straight up plain and simple MIXED BREED DOG.

But ABK there is nothing wrong with Gamebred dogs with CD. Hell start a thread about Hall dogs, shorty cowboy dogs etc.. Carying the trait and all kinds of so called experianced gamedog men will start deffending them to no end:confused:

You are 100% correct & I don't understand it. Just as one example is Hall's website, almost all his dogs are affected to one degree or another. Then as you noted, there is Shorty Cowboy who is affected. Why they're defended is beyond me, save for the fact that unlike in bullies the condition is not bred for in those dogs, but is instead just an unfortunate by-product.

What's funny is that lunkhead mutant probably still weighs more than a classic game bred pit. :D

Here is one game bred pup that has severe CD. I don't know if the dog has ever been bred, but it is proudly displayed on a website & while I know the bloodline, an exact pedigree is not given for the dog.

There was a local bulldog that looked a lot like the top photo,he had longer legs. The rest of the litter was show quality dogs.As a matter of fact he turned out to be a dead game dog.So if your into the gameness side of the game I would'nt be so quick to cull on looks.Ya just never know.

Yeah but seems like it would effect proformance...... Think I would stick to game dogs with out the physical defects. Keep it best to best, ya digg ;)? Why bother with it when there are other dogs that wont muck up your gene pool with the physical problems? JMO.

The funny thing is it really didnt effect his abillity to work or perform. Now I get were your commin from but if the bottom line is gameness why not breed to him.

Good post Vic. If it's gameness (or game bred) you're after, there are too many good correct physical specimens out there than to go with a defective dog or a dog who carries defects.

As ole Bobby Hall likes to say "the proof is in the pudding." Go to his website & check out the pictures. His older dogs were good, straight limbed dogs. As you go on through the years toward modern dogs, you start seeing dogs like Shorty Pearl & Sh!t House Bert who have moderate CD. Then you see today's dogs like Tractor-Trailer who have severe CD.

THAT'S what you get when you don't take physical soundness AND gameness into consideration! A general degredation of the line. They can have all the heart in the world, but what's it worth if they have flippers instead of paws?

It doesn't help you, it doesn't help your program & it sure doesn't help the breed, esp. when there are sound specimens who are just as good (if not better) to breed to.

I hear you but He aint the only game dog around. i just don't think it would be worth it if I could find one better (just as game with out the physical prob).

and just cuz it didn't look like it effected him don't mean it didn't or it wont. Dogs have enought issues when they get old as is. what do you think that dog will go through?... Just don't seem worth it to me. but to each his own .

It absolutly baffles me that ths concept is so hard to grasp for so many.

  18. That's 100% foundation right there j/k,,it's ugly LOL. I don't even see how they can be considered a breed with a standard of 12"-23" and 50-150 LBs, thats a joke. Loose standards so EVERYONE who has a bully lookin dog usually breed and they make money cause the prices they charge are through the roof and another shocker is people actually pay the prices even when the dog can't hardly jog. Sorry for the little rant

exactly! the most heart i have ever seen in any dog, only to have the flame snuffed out due to physical defects derived from unscrupulous breeding practices...

i saw the pain this dog was in, and it is unsettling to think that people see certain defects as "desirable"
