i am yet to hear anything bad about boerbels, they have one of the best reps out i think. looked into getting one a few years back but as they were new down here, there were only three breeders in the country at the time, and the price was just stupid. Looking at about 3000aus to buy a pup. Have even heard a story about a twelve week old pup, placing itself in front of its new owner and staunching a bulldozer working next door, didnt back away until the dozer did, then went back to its owner like nothing happened.

Boerboels are awesome, was looking into them before I got my first bandog and still hope to own one someday.

yah... they are really doing their job. they are also guarding our chicken yard.
but im really looking forward to own an american bulldog someday...

  15. We have a big and varied pack--thankfully we live in the country so no one can say how many we can or cannot have.

    2 English bulldogs
    2 German Shepherds
    2 Great Danes
    1 Beagle
    1 beagle/blue heeler mix
    2 Chihuahuas
    2 Papillons

We seem to do things in twos, so even though I'm currently looking for one pit bull, I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually get a second.

I'll answer the two questions I get asked the most:

    1) Yes, they all live in the house (and I vacuum a LOT).
    2) No, I don't breed any of them--they are all spayed/nuetered, except for one of the Danes who is only 10 weeks old--but he'll be done when he's 6 months old.

yeah, you guys have been limited in the number of breeders down there. but it's growing. and yeah, they're expensive. but the good breeders don't charge an arm and a leg for a pup. im only looking at having to put out about $1200 USD for my new pup (approx.). and the dam of the pup is multi-titled in lots of things including PP stuff, WP, OB, and temp tests. Still waiting on her to choose a male, but I trust this breeder 100%. not to mention the bookoodles of health testing she does on her stock. I can't wait!

I wish you luck! They are a fantastic breed, especially if you go to the right breeder. Unfortunately, they are becoming so popular, specially here in the States, that BYBs are popping up everywhere to make a quick buck and putting out unsound dogs with bad temps and bad health. gotta be careful....

    BGD Pup

That's actually why I settled on getting a bandog rather than a BB, I was finding it hard to find a breeder that actually worked and health tested their stock and while I was looking I stumbled upon the breeder of my bandogs and was really impressed with his program of hard testing and culling, after getting to know the breeder I got my male and was so impressed two years later I got a bitch from the same sire as my male.

Yeah, there are good BB breeders out there, just harder to find since they don't advertise like crazy. I've found a fantastic one and several other good ones. had to weed through a lot of crap though. It's best to import, but I wanted one from within the States.

And glad you found a good bandog breeder! lots of crappy BYBs of those now too. i've heard some horror stories... but i like bandogs a lot. i've seen a bandog litter in which a boerboel was the sire. pretty neat. what recipe is your bandog?

  20. BGD

    BGD Pup

It's funny I spent months and months searching for a BB breeder that satisfied all my requirements then one day I was talking to my Da about it and he mentioned an old friend that bred these crossbreeds. After seeing the dogs and speaking to the bloke I was blown away and after plenty of badgering he agreed to let me have a pup the next time he had a litter.
As to breeding my male is mostly Bullmastiff and American Bulldog, my bitch is from the same sire as my dog (BMxAB) and her dam is Rottweiler x EBTxABxAPBT. All the dogs used in his breeding program are tested hard (both temperament and health) and work hard guarding various businesses and properties. I seriously can't fault his breeding program, he only breeds when he needs new blood himself and the dogs he does breed are tested in so many different scenarios and in the case of my dogs sire has actually stopped a fair few would be (armed) robbers in their tracks guarding "his" pawn shop.
