Merle opinions?

What would all of you consider my dog color wise? Is this color merle or smut or what? All opinions welcomed.

 

If the pictures arent too clear......on his back that is dark brown/black hair under his fawn.

I am not 100% sure of this, but I think the color is referred to as 'gristle' and is also seen in Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

 

Never heard of anyone refer to a color as gristle. I had a pup last year that was marked similarlly. Also, our friend has a pit bull/bull mastiff (pet) that is marked like that. It is referred to 'ticked' like brown/black ticked. Or buckskin/black ticked. It is definitely not merle.

That's from the ADBA website. They refer to that particular dog as fawn with black ticking.

Definitely not merle. I'm yet unsure of the exact color due to the photo, but its not even close to merle.

 

I would definitely say some kind of sabling. Maybe buckskin or fawn with black sabling.

He is red (or dark fawn) with black ticking (sabling).

 

Good looking boy. Do you happen to see many of these colored dogs, because I have never seen another one and the breeder said this is the first he's ever gotten.

 

Thanks. I've only seen my friend's dog and that one male pup. My male Sammy's tail is like that (he was the sire of that pup), and some of the others in that litter ended up with the sabled tail. I've also seen pics of buckskin/black mask dogs with the sabled tail. That seems to be much more common than over the whole body. At least from what I've seen.

Ive also heard it reffered to as "dirty buckskin"

 

Im not sure, but its good to learn about the "ticked" coloration. we always called them UGLY....J/K. I guess i learn somthin new everyday.

 

I agree with SpencerPits. Buckskin with tics but definately not a merle.

 

my beat guess would be a dirty buckskin.

 

my newport has thrown four with this coloration, i was referring to them as fawn and red with black masking and white marks. if i could post pics, i would...but that still confuses me. ill try though.
