Whats the best chain for them and how many lbs should it be at most? Would ten feet be ideal or more?

  3. LMFAO!! That's a great answer!

Go by grade ! The higher the grade the stronger and
More durable the chain will be !...

    Example:
Grade 30 @5/16 of an inch in size has a working
Load limit of 1,900 lbs and a ten ft length would
    Weight abou 9 lbs !

Grade 43 @1/4 of an inch has a working load
Limit of 2,600 lbs and a ten ft length would
    Weight about 6.5 lbs

Grade 70 @1/4 of an inch has a working load
Limit of 3150 and a ten ft length would weight
    About 6.7 lbs ...

    nmdogs Big Dog

Grade 80 @9/32 of an inch in size has a
Working load limit of 3,500 lbs and a ten
Ft length would weight about 7.2 lbs

Grade 100 @9/32 of an inch in size has a
Working load limit of 4,300 lbs and a ten
Ft length would weight about 7.5 lbs

But imo a chain that is bigger then 3/8 of
An inch in size is far to big for any dog !

    Hope this helps !

I just moved recently and i'm about 90% finished with my first 2 set ups at the new place. I chose to ditch the kennels and go with proper chain set ups instead.

Axle buried so no chance of hang ups.

No weak links, the weakest link to this set up is the o-rings so I chose to double up on them. I used cold shuts to connect everything because in my opinion it created a solid connection and keeps a continuous flow when connecting the chain to the swivel and swivel to o-rings. I don't use clasps or bull snaps as I'm not lazy and don't mind undoing the collar to remove the dog from the setup. I use stillwater 4 ply collars.

A well built dog house is a must. I live up north and our winters are brutal here so I use double walled double chamber houses that are insulated with 2" insulation board. Their pretty snug in the winter in these houses.

We put 4' fencing between these 2 as they would love nothing more than to have a go at each other. LOL plus I live in the city and can't have them chain fighting all the time.

We then fenced the area off from the rest of the yard so I don't have to worry about my kids friends going back there and messing with the dogs. Yes, those are tiki torches on top of the fencing, they keep a lot of the flys and skeeters at bay! I also use home defence indoor/ outdoor around the perimeter of the whole shabang as well as around the base of the dog houses. I uses sleven dust all over the ground and inside dog houses, ( mixed with Cedar chips in the summer and straw in the winter). I don't like my animals bothered by bugs. I also flea and tick bathe once a month and spray the dogs with permethin spray about every 4 days. I have no issues with bugs.

It took my dad, Erie outlaw and myself about 3 days to do all this and my costs are under $1000. I looked into concreting the whole ground behind the chain link but the cheapest would be 3,000 to do it so I choose to keep it dirt instead and save myself 3 stacks and dogs with contact sores. ;)

One access in and it stays locked.

@ AGK, any probs with the dogs bitting on the 2x4s on the privacy fence? I want to eventually put one around my dogs but was considering putting it "inside out" so that the dogs couldnt chew on the cross beams. Also thought of running pavers around just the edges of the fence to deter digging under the fence.

No problems with chewers, I don't have any hard keepers, no chewers or diggers. If you live in the city ( at least that's how it is here) you have to have the framed side of the fence facing into your yard so the neighbors see the smooth part of the fence. Check your local laws before you privacy fence your property.

I keep a femur bone in all there spots to deter any chewing on anything like houses or fencing. Lil miss geach can't reach any fencing and Charlie can only reach the far right panel. Mia don't chew on anything.

i cant believe the crap you were going to do. unbelievable lol. a 1/4 inch chain with a grade of 70 should be good for all dogs. 5/16 should be the highest size a dog should ever be on again with a high grade. look at the grades thats what matters when buying a chain. for the most part a 1/4 inch chain is all a dog needs to be on and will not break its neck. a chain is not intended to build strength. thats some urban legend spewed off buy people like yourself. exercise builds strength.

    nice setup NGK

Is it best to bury your axle or leave some of it exposed?
