Stupid neighbor - help!!!

Ok, here is the deal - I have a stupid neighbor that lets her bulldog run loose on potty breaks. He has run over & confronted my dogs twice. The first time he did it it was my Mastiff puppy, so nothing broke out.

The first time it happened I told her right quick she needed to contain her dog b/c some of my dogs are DA & if her dog comes running up on my dogs a fight may ensue. She just looked at me like I was a b...h for saying that to her & said "yeah well, we're going to get a kennel soon." Well months have passed & no kennel. :rolleyes:

This morning I was out letting one of my females pee & guess who comes running over??? Her dog! She'd let him out while we were out there!!! For the record, I let my inside dogs out on a flexi leash to use the bathroom in my front yard b/c I don't want them going out in the back yard around my other dogs. I have several who, if they see others dogs will do nothing but fuss at the other dogs & not go to the bathroom, hence my taking them out front instead.

I have taken to the habit of taking my dogs out early in the morning & late at night to avoid her dog. But sometimes, like today, when they gotta go, they gotta go. I already had one incident where my dog was asking to go out & I had to make her wait & wait b/c the neighbor's dog was outside loose. When she asked to go this afternoon, I didn't see anyone out, so I thought we were safe, but I was wrong. :rolleyes:

What can I do with this moron? Her husband says he's gotten onto her about letting the dog out w/o a leash, but she does it anyway. Luckily, her dog (a big puppy) did not try to dominate my female or we may have had a nasty fight.

Any advice?

 

Take pictures of the loose dog.

Send neighbor a registered letter informing her of the situation and your concerns & send copy of letter to AC.

When you find dog loose, take him inside your house and call AC.

You need to have as much paper trail as possible. You need to PROVE you were a responsible dog owner.

In our area you are "supposed" to have 5 or more acres to let your dog run loose, but most people do not adhere to this & I doubt the PD is going to fuss about her letting her dog out in her yard to pee. Her dog is an inside dog & only comes out to use the bathroom. The only time it comes in our yard is to come after one of my dogs.

The owner is always at the window or door when he's out & when he runs into our yard she always runs after him & gets him, but it's aways too little, too late as we all know dogs run much faster than we do & by the time she gets over there her dog is already faced up on mine.

I just thank the Lord my female didn't maul him good as she's usually bad DA. Maybe it was b/c he's still a puppy, I don't know. Anyway, b/c she is on the scene so quickly I doubt I could take the dog into my house.

 

Maybe you could get a little more in depth about what will happen to her dog if a fight were to break out. Let her know that her dog could lose its life in short order and try to be dead serious and stone faced with her. Not bragging, just real talk. She obviously thinks you don't know what you're talking about or she doesn't give a damn about her dogs health or safety. Just MHO.. Good luck ABK. i would make the gesture- go to wally world and buy a tie out stake, or even just a clip cable- and give it to her. think of it as prevenative maintenance. if she simple kept 1 end at the door all she would have to do is open door and "clip" th elittle bugger, he can go to the bathroom and stay in his own yard.
i would see it as a good $20 investment

 

Bullyson: lol, you're right DJ. Sometimes I think those little brown piles my dog leaves in the yard have more smarts than some people!

The first time I confronted her I told her that unless she contained her dog, her dog could be easily mauled or killed. I also told her that her dog could be easily stolen, as our neighborhood is an extremely high theft area.

From the look on her face I could tell she thought I was just just being a b...h. When her dog ran over today she apologized profusely. I said nothing but instead handled my dog b/c she was looking like she was about to break bad.

I spoke to her husband about this the first time it happened & he told me that he has gotten onto her about letting the dog out unleashed, but she still does it - when he's gone of course.

I am thinking about sending my husband over to talk to her husband about it since they obviously won't listen to me. The sticky part is I have to be careful not to make too many waves as we still have to live next to them & I am leery about calling AC b/c we have APBTs too.

rallyracer: You are right. But I hate to have to spend my hard earned money on some idiot. To some folks it doesn't seem like much, but that $20 could go to pay a bill or buy a bag of dog food. IMO it's THEIR responsibility to keep THEIR dog up, but it looks as I may have to do as you suggested.

 

Those stakes wont hold a bulldog. A 6 months old pup would rip that right out of the ground. I agree with your point though. Maybe and extra chainout would work. Those things are expensive though.

no need to even put a stake in the ground, simply put around porch post and clip back to itself ( think choker) and you have 1 end for the dog

i know it sucks to have to spend money on idiots, but this is a neighbor- and you have to keep peace w/ the neighbors. i have a rat terrier that lives down the road ( next door) and it loves mothing more than to come over and bend a fresh biscuit on my newly mowed lawn ( i try to take good care of my lawn) i have to have a talk with them about it because my dogs have almost gotten it twice

 

Racer (bend a fresh biscuit, thats funny shit right there!) your heart is in the right place, but RESPONSIBLE ownership is gonna entail some expense. These people have a dog and have taken on the responsibility of keepin his dumb butt safe.
ABK- Id send hubby over there to tactfully talk with them and givem the dead pan dollars and cents "How much did you pay for your dog? Do you normally throw X amount of dollars away? No? Then keep his butt outta my yard. Not sayin anything will happen, just lettin you know what could. Have a good one." Tip the hat and roll out. That way if it does happen, he can look at his wife and say "see told you so." and its a wrap.

 

We have the same problem with 3 of our neighbors.
One of them have a cocky little Jack Russell mix dog. When Tyson was a pup, he rolled Tyson a few times while I was walking him [back then Tyson wouldn't fight back] while the Jack Russel was running loose freely.
Now that Tyson is older, we're scared the Jack will still feel he can jump on Tyson and it may end up very bad. --.--

But, I agree with getting the dog a tie out, or something.

Thanks for all the replies. I went to my husband's work to get some $$$ to buy them a tie out & he flat-out refused. He said he would talk to them tonight.

As for the dog, I don't think it cost them anything. I think it was given to them by a relative or friend.

P.S. "bend a fresh biscuit" was pretty darn funny. I have to admit I almost lol at that!

 

I would give her one warning, and the next time the dog came on my property, it would be there to stay.

If a stray came on my property threatening me, my family, or my dogs, after the owner had been warned, I would shoot it.

 

I agree ^. That person has no real intentions of careing for that dog in a responsible manner.

 

No, she does not. But I cannot shoot the dog b/c as soon as he comes into my property she scurries out there to get him & I would risk hitting her. Plus, I live in a neighborhood & if I shot the dog I would be charged w/ discharging a firearm in a residential area.

 

I would try to educate them. Hell, some years back our neighbor shot 2 of our dogs(not pit bulls). They educated us the hard way. Never could prove who did it. But I keep my dogs up now for sure. 7 ft fence. Maybe you could pass that story on and act like you are really trying to help. Explain how some of your neighbors will shoot a pit on sight and you would hate to see that happen to their dog and are trying to give them a heads up before something bad happens.

Thanks guys, but I have tried this already when I saw her letting the dog run loose as an 8 week old. No one around here will shoot a pit bull, as they are in too high in demand. But they will steal or pick up any dog they can get. I have already told her that the dog will get stolen if she keeps letting him out alone, but she obviously does not care since she keeps doing it. Heck, her other neighbors have 3 kids who will rob you blind if you let them & they'll steal a pit bull in a New York minute, esp. a puppy. Think she cared? Nope. I told her if they get it they'll abuse the dog or barter it for drugs, but it had no effect on her.

 

take video of the dog in your yard. if you wanted to you could press charges for tresspassing. might not be the logical thing to do but its worth a shot.

 

I only read about half the replies, but if you do decide to put something in writing to this woman to cover your rear, I wouldn't put in that your dogs would whoop on hers. Because I'm sure some lawyer would turn that around to make it appear like its your fault if something happens. They might argue that because you knew your dogs were "vicious," you yourself should've taken steps to protect others from your dogs, or some such nonsense.
