This is from my parrot discussion group:

Anyone on the list live in Missouri? Bad news. There’s scary new bill they’re trying to pass there.

I don’t think it will pass, but what if it does? No one will be allowed to raise baby birds or bring them into the state (No more Hookbill Festival). No one will be allowed to sell birds (No more pet stores). No one will be allowed to own a bird that isn’t licensed by the state, including even budgies, canaries and finches (annual fees). No one will be allowed to take their licensed birds out in public except for trips to the vet (No more Gateway Parrot Club).

    Read the bill at-

WTF! I was never a bird person myself, but others in my family have had budgies, finches, etc. What a crock.

Wonder if something like this would ever pass if the media didn't grossely overexagerate and hype the avian bird flu. It was clear at the time what the real story was, maybe some others are beginning to see it.

I'm sure it's an AR agenda. These AR dip$hits are disgustingly influencial in politics. They've hated bird enthusiasts longer than I can remember. They've been going after exotic bird breeders forever. I just got news on my parrot forum that this proposed bill has died for now, thank goodness. But we all know bills such as these will return again and again as long AR people are breathing and want our animals "to be free".

What do you think the Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act that is being signed by every freakin official that it has to go through does?? Don't you even THINK about protesting...you'll get sent right to the big house.

The link brought me to this: HB 1847 Prohibits a person from knowingly possessing, harboring, selling, bartering, transferring, exchanging, or importing any wild animal for use as a pet

Explain to me what is wrong with that????? The bill is talking about people taking a wild animal as a pet, actually it may be good - do you realize there are parts of this country where people can buy wolves or large cats for pets? I love all animals but it is safest for the wild ones to NOT be pets- mostly for the animals sake. I love birds, but do you realize that when they are imported they are striped from their natural environments? How is THAT fair?

usually when the government tells me what i can or cant have, it pisses me off, but i dont care to own any animal that has been removed from its natural wild environment.
