Jasmine has this bad habit if sitting on her hip instead on her butt. I took her to the vet and he said that her hips are fine that some dogs just sit this was and it is called a lazy sit. He said that I need to start correcting it now or it can cause problems later. Anyone have any recomindations on how to start correcting this problem?

its simple positioning when you teach the sit command. Make sure that when you tell her to sit that she is on her haunches, a proper sit. if she gives you a lazy sit pick her pull the lead until she is up agian and say no. then regive the command until she sits properly then praise.

she is really young you should have no trouble getting her right.

Its only a real problem if you're going to be doing obedience competitions. You might lose a half point for the dog sitting on one hip rather than straight. Plus a lazy-sitting dog will more easily slide into a down if you're doing stay exercises.

ETA: I personally wouldn't correct a dog for giving a lazy sit. Not right off the bat anyway. When my dog gives me a lazy sit, I either have her take a step forward and do it again, or I pull her forward by her collar so that she sits up correctly. But if you want it done correctly, then don't treat the dog until its done 100% correctly. And don't pound the issue in at this age. Practice a few times and then play.

Rolo has always sat on his hip. I just figured he liked it that way.
