Hey folks, I was just wondering who feeds HI-TEK RATIONS food. I've always fed it to all my dogs untill I got talked into feeding Diamond. Well it didn't take me but about 30lbs of Diamond to switch back to HI-TEK.

As I said in the other identical thread, 30 lbs. of dog food is NOT enough to determine the full results of the switch. Especially, with more then one dog. It may take months, over a gradual change. But, do as you wish.

Sorry to be so blunt. But that is very low quality dog food. I'd never feed something like that. First ingedient: Chicken BY-PRODUCT meal. By product means whatever is left over after the bird has been processesed. Beaks, combs, scrapings from the slaughterhouse floor. You almost could not find something worse if you tried. At least it dosen't have corn.

Dang, I wonder why my dogs did that on the Diamond? I try to give the best I can afford for all of my dogs, Since i've switched back to HI-TEK the stool is firmed up, coats are shiny and they seem more energetic. Do ya'll think the better quality food was to rich for them or did I not give Diamond a chance like 14rock said? You can look in my gallery and see how my dogs look on HI-TEK. Heck, maybe I saw the runs and just freaked out. Thanks for the help everybody.

I always say feed what you like.. but try and feed the best qaulity you can afford. I don't like the by product being the first thing and the only meat in the food. How much is 30 lbs costing you of that food? I feed Kirklands lamb, rice and vegetables from Costco.. no by products, no corn.. first ingredient is lamb. The label is the same as Diamond Naturals... I've had very good results on it. I give them 1 raw egg a week and just started adding 1 teaspoon of flaxseed oil doing that every 4 days. The feed itself costs $20 for 40lbs.. but they have a chicken formula as well that is about $17

*How to pick a good dog food*
You want to pick a dog food that conforms to minimal AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) standards because AAFCO officials strictly regulate pet food.

You want to pick pet foods that have good sources of animal protein. If you look at the ingredient list, it is listed in descending order by amount — just like humans. So the first two or three ingredients should be some type of animal protein — chicken, beef, fish, lamb, beef or turkey. They shouldn't be vegetable, wheat or grain, or animal by-products.

    Meat meals and By-products

Meat and poultry meals, by-product meals, and meat-and-bone meal are common ingredients in pet foods. The term "meal" means that these materials are not used fresh, but have been rendered. What is rendering? Rendering, as defined by Webster's Dictionary, is "to process as for industrial use: to render livestock carcasses and to extract oil from fat, blubber, etc., by melting." Home-made chicken soup, with its thick layer of fat that forms over the top when the soup is cooled, is a sort of mini-rendering process. Rendering separates fat-soluble from water-soluble and solid materials, removes most of the water, and kills bacterial contaminants, but may alter or destroy some of the natural enzymes and proteins found in the raw ingredients. Meat and poultry by-products, while not rendered, vary widely in composition and quality. What can the feeding of such products do to your companion animal? Some veterinarians claim that feeding slaughterhouse wastes to animals increases their risk of getting cancer and other degenerative diseases. The cooking methods used by pet food manufacturers -- such as rendering, extruding (a heat-and-pressure system used to "puff" dry foods into nuggets or kibbles), and baking -- do not necessarily destroy the hormones used to fatten livestock or increase milk production, or drugs such as antibiotics or the barbiturates used to euthanize animals.

*again, look at the ingredient list, it is listed in descending order by amount.*

If you can't afford a premium kibble...feeding to many dogs!

Since i've switched back to HI-TEK the stool is firmed up, coats are shiny and they seem more energetic.
I'm sure it did as their system is used to that poison. The firmer stool is a direct result of having beet pulp so high in the ingredient profile. Feed a multi-vitamin and cardboard...would be much better for your dogs.

Do ya'll think the better quality food was to rich for them or did I not give Diamond a chance like 14rock said?
No you didn't give Diamond a change, as you need a minimum of 4-6 weeks. Diamond isn't any better than the crap you're currently feeding. You simply just went from one poison to another one.

I used to feed that to my non allergy dogs & the Fish & Potato to my allergy dog. They did GREAT on it for quite a while......until they changed the formula for the Fish & Potato & his allergies started flaring up again. IMO it is pretty decent food.

The BHA is not a good thing either. Thats proven to cause cancer in dogs.

I was on Nutro Ultra but switched to Diamond Naturals. Been through 50 pounds and the results are good. My dog eats anything and everything though.

when I had dogs, I would feed a line of HI Tek Rations called Intimidator... I liked the results that I saw changing to that line and the dogs liked it and I did see a great increase in energy... the bottom line comes down to, feed what you like and what you can afford...

I'm not Texasbulldogs, but I don't think that is any better than any of the other, more commercial premium dog foods. Personally, there is not enough protein or fat in that kibble, just like Caniade, for any of my dogs, even on the chain or in the house, even at twice to three times the suggested measurement. Other than that, the main ingredient is more than likely the Menhaden Fish Meal, even though the Lamb is listed first, and I don't really like feeding a dog Fish or Lamb unless they can't tolerate Chicken. It seems to be a better kibble than Walmart sells, and most feed stores though.

I agree,i fed my dogs some diamond for about two weeks and they had such awfull diarhea,it was bad.Not only was it diarrhea but tons of it!IAt first i thought it might just be the food switch, but it kept getting worse.I had been feeding Iams Lamb&Rice and that never happened.Well i trashed that shit and went back to Iams and they've been fine ever since.I would probably choose Ol'Roy before i buy diamond again! And Texas I would normally agree about trying the food for at least four weeks, but, when your dogs are crapping their brains out you really have no choice but to stop feeding it.Also people on here talking about if you cant afford high quality feed should realize high price doesnt mean high quality. That diamond was dirt cheap,8.99 for 20lb.I think you(general you) should just worry about how well your dog is doing ,and not about other peoples opinions. As long as your dogs healthy feed it what works for your particular dog.

If you are switching dog food u can NOT just make a straight up switch u have to gradually mix the new food in with the normal food so the dog gets used to it. Start out with at most a 75% old and 25% new blend and each week increase the amount of new food. This will easy the dogs onto the new food without a shock to the system that a immediate change would have.
