Need help on color!

Discussion in 'APBT Bloodlines' started by Mr.Benedict, Mar 8, 2007.

  1. OK! here's one for ya! I'm sending off the litter papers to ADBA in the morning and we are debating on what color to consider this male pup.
his back is darker than the top of his head but the color is uniform.
    Wife say's chocolate/tan, and I say red/tan .
He is all this color except for the two tone tan markings and white patch on chest.
    thanks for the help!

if you go to the adba wedsite they have a whole section on what color is this dog with pictures ,Im really not sure but i would definitly say red over choco.

  3. Yea, if anythinghe is gonna lighten up...I am predicting from my persoanl experiences that he is gonna be more red as he gets older. My girl has a really distinctive liner down her back too.....so much that people have asked if she is mixed with ridgeback.....the jerks, ha ha!

  4. I went to the ADBA color chart, only thing it shows close is a Chocolate and tan.
He is not as dark as there chocolate.
Maybe he will get darker, I don't know!
    Kinda different!

Looks to me like red with black ticking, but I'm pretty bad with picking colors. All I know is that they will tend to get lighter as they get older, if that helps. Do you have any other pics?

he will more than likely get pegged as a brown or a red.but i don't deal with the ADBA anymore, money is to hard to come by to give to the enemy.

  7. I've got some more but it takes a long time to crop and post, I have a pup that is colored fawn/black ticking, but this one has tan.
As I can tell by ADBA's site the ticking is a dark tone to the entire coat pattern color.
one way or another the pen is writing in a color tonight!
there's several pics on my site in the puppy page.

hmm thats strange, maybe it was someone elses site i was thinking of ,i know i looked at one that had all sorts of colors.

  9. IMO... a red with a black nose... maybe a red buckskin... on papers, i would go with red...... Not like it really matters... might end up a dirty red.... but who knows.. its a baby.... things will most deff change

I would like to see a side shot of him, but in my opinion he looks sable. (but again, it's hard to judge from that pic)

That pup is oh so cute! I would say that from personal experience with the tri's and since we get alot of them with the same type patterns as young pups, that this pup is what we would call a dirty red or dirty buckskin. Those darker colored hairs will 99.9% of the time fade out and be barely recognizable by the time it is an adult.

I have to go w/ Mia. The pup looks like a sable. Sabling is what gives the pup an overlay or "dirty" look.

Here is a site that will be of some help:
    http://www.wildsidekennels.com/articles/tanpoint.html

It features both sable pups & adults. Just click on the pic & it will englarge it.

    Good read too! ;)

  13. I already labled it as a brown&tan and sent his papers off,He is the only male I'm keeping out of this litter.
I really like his color and markings , but really have not seen this color before.
have you had pups out of your tri's litters like this?

We have, just about every litter as a matter of fact. It's a really intersting color but doesn't stay as true as the black & tans. No matter what you listed that color as the pup is adorable, :) Actually a prime example of one of those at an older age from our litters is Marty's Wild Bill, he looked almost black & tan when born but has now faded out to a very handsome buckskin color.

I would have to say fawn w/blk ticking. He doesn't look quite dark enough to be a red w/ ticking, and he doesn't have a blk mask to go that direction.

  16. Well , I guess I'll be changing his colors w/ ADBA as he is now red and tan at 12 weeks old instead of brown and tan. here are a couple pics snapped the other day. looks red to me! We've named him "Hellboy"
