For future reference......not all dogs are effected by chocolate only ones that have an allergic reaction to it..although, if you find out they are it's prob too late. You can induce vomiting by drawing up peroxide with a needleless syringe and making the dog injest it by squirting it down it's throat. Give enoungh to induce the vomiting. Peroxide will not hurt the animal.

Yeah, I've delivered many foals before. I currently have 17 horses at my place. Earlier this spring I had to deliver a still born one and that is bad. He was stiff and everything. :( Shit happens when you spend your life with animals.

I am sorry. I know how bad that must be. It is also an emotional trama for the mother. They know it and miss their baby. We had a horse die of depression before. had two in the pasture and they spent at least 20 years together one died at 32 and the 26 year old one died a few weeks later she wouldn't leave the spot that he died at. No he wasn't still there. I burried him. But she just layed there. Vet told me to put her down but I just couldn't beleive that she wouldn't snap out of it. It was terribly sad for me. I have yet to get another horse. It has been 23 years. They are very smart creatures. Much like dogs. Two of our help mates in life.

I always tell my clients that even if money was no object I couldn't keep more than 5 horses at once...it's sooooooo stressful when they get sick. I'm the type of person that pulls a cot into the stall of a colicky horse and listens to the stomach all night, startling myself awake if they even sound like they might be trying to roll...:o

the peroxide method works but you should only do it if the dog ingests food or meds dont do it if the dog swallows chemicals as this can cause sever burns if the the substance is caustic.the rule of thumb is about 1 TEA spoon per 10 pounds of body weight. We ussually have luck putting it in milk and letting the dog drink it ,much less stressfull than forecing it down the dogs throat.

good call on the dose per weight never knew that...in most cases you dont have time for the animals to lap it up or to measure it out....IMO putting the animals in an uncomfortable situation for a few seconds is better than dead. (ie. we had a dog in our barn and he got a hold of a baited mouse box and had ripped it open and ate the block of bait. We didnt have time to try and get him to lap up anything let alone measure it out, we filled up 4 syringes and blasted them down his throat. He got up every bit in a matter of seconds.) Most chemicals (cleaning products, etc) that could be harmful if injested are caustic reguardless of the Peroxide injestion...what method would you recommend for chemical injestion?

Yeah, it was hard on her. She called to him for days, never stopping, even at night. A good friend of mine had his horse, Sanacee, do the same thing as your old one. He stopped eating the day the mare that was in with him died and Mark (my friend) had to put him down. He was doing great, besides his old age, too. Still trying to cut cattle, LOL. He was a good boy. :(

They are a community animal and don't like to be alone. That is for sure.

LOL, I do that too. Everytime one foals I'm sleeping in the barn for a week! It's fun having a lot of them. Cleaning 17 stalls everyday isn't fun though. I should probably hire help, LOL.

BTW, my boy just made ROM last weekend!!! Sorry, I had to brag!

Ahhh...the good ol cookies w/ the kisses on top.... No wonder she ate those...they're great!

    How is she doing?

Man... when I lived at home and we had cocker spaniels, lol, I woke up on Christmas to go see what Santa brought me...there was an entire package of Hershey Kisses - GONE! Wrappers and all. The stupid dog didn't get sick or anything...she didn't even act different at all.

The Animal poison center does charge but the National Poison Center ph 1-800-222-1222 does not and they will help with animals. I always call them because until a few minutes ago I didn't know there was an Animal Poison Center. I called the poison center to see if they now charged and I was told no they don't but Animal Poison Center does because they don't have the funding that the National Poison Center does. So I told the helpful woman I would continue to call them since they are free and she said to go right ahead and call. LOL

Anything chemical should always a veterinarians call just dont induce vomting untill you talk to the vet lots of time they will instruct you to give the dog charcoal till you can get it to the vet but i think most people could probably get to a vet faster than go to the store and search for liquid charcoal alot of people dont really keep that stuff on hand.It can be helpfull it absorbes the toxins if you can get the dog to eat it quick which most dogs wont do (except mine who eats the charcoal packets for the fish tank at least once a month)also the charcoal will really make them shit so watch out if you ever have to do it!

One of my dogs got ahold of some Vitamins one time. I was cleaning and the bottle was on the ground. I called the vet I worked for and he instucted me to use Hydrogen Peroxide to induce vomiting. It took about 4cc to get him to vomit. And he vomited up the pills. And Milk Chocolate isnt as toxic as baking or dark. Milk choc in small amounts will only cause an upset tummy.
