  1. APPLYING "KEEP" STYLE OF CONDITIONING FOR SHOW TYPE APBT

i want my dog to be muscular and ripped...can i apply the "keep" style like those dogmen in the past used to hit their dogs required pit weight...but before anything else....i would like to say that i'm anti-dog fighting but in my personal opinion, keep approach is like a human boxer's diet...that's why i find it interesting....can anyone give me some tips or keep strategies...actually i'm a busy guy...an easy and practical keep regimen could really help....thanks

it would not be good for your dog IMO to be in a fulltime keep. a keep is very stressfull on a dog. you might jus want to regular exercise, nothing as demanding as a keep

I agree. Here's my week program:
Monday: Wheight draging or weight pulling
    Tuesday: Rest
    Wednesday: Running
Thursday: Weight dragging or weight pulling
    Friday: Rest
    Saturday: Running
    Sunday: Weights again.

See it's quite simple, though it takes time. I give him some swimming once and a will. Don't forget the rubbing after each workout. He also play fight with a female Rott.

I agree....a real keep is too expensive and stressful on a dog! For a conformation show the only exercise needed are good 2 hr walks and no more than 25 minutes on mill or flirtpole/springpole!

Looks like a keep workout without the bite works =)

And easy and practical keep is not a "keep" at all. In fact those two terms are opposites. If you cannot spend the time, "keep" regimen is not for you. As the others say, a well-balanced diet together with weekend runs should suffice.

Remember: On the most part, the way a dog looks is determined by genetics.

I don't think the "keep" is for you. like everyone else has said. it's not good to keep a dog in "keep" all the time. A proper high quality diet with daily exercise should be just fine. Roadwork a couple times per week will keep a dog in great shape.

My conditioning program is not a keep, because everything depends on the intencity of the workouts. At least that's what I think.

The key to getting a dog in shape is dedication and persistance. How hard do you want to work at it? It's not just your dog working, it's you with him/her. A little bit of scheduled roadwork a few times per week along with a proper high quality diet will get your dog looking good as long as you do everything at the same time of day/night/evening or whatever. Feeding your dog at the same time every day should be a given. Give it time. Be patient.

When you want to get your dog in a good shape you have to work hard also:) A real Keep is to hard for the dog. Lots of handwalking, running beside a bike, some tug o war and a good primium dogfood will get your dog in shape for confermation shows.

read some keeps to get an idea of different ways of work and the right way of thinking as regards to conditioning a dog, but do not take them for granted

try some of the exercises that different keeps suggest, (at a lower intensity level than it's suggested in the keep), on your dog and then dicide on what to use out of the keeps to keep your dog in shape

dogs tamperaments and will to work tend to differ when working with different lines and in the same line also, so check what works best with your animal, keep and keep some notes that could help you in the future or with other dogs

    good luck

FOR A SHOW,,YA WILL STILL HAVE TO WORK THE DOG TO LOOK GOOD...HOUR/+HALF..WALKING 40 MIN LURE CHASE..ETC;ETC;MILL...POLE...HAVE THEM LOOKING GOOD IN NO TIME ,THERE'S NO EASY WAY UN-LESS YA STICK EM ON A MILL FOR HOUR'S WHICH I WOULD NOT RECOMEND......:dogdrink:

My dog is on a keep or conditioning progam not that insenity but we do 5 walks a day and 10 mins on the springpole during and good fed and good chainspot will keep your dog stress free i have most of the famous dog man keeps look through them and see what you like but it is very expensive to condition a dog like the old dogman did but the money they win from the fight is fed money.

The keeps i put on my dog for a confo show is completely different compared to a real keep. One is preformance based and the other is looks based. The best comparison i can make is body builders and world strongest man competitions. The body builders look very muscular, veiny, sculpted and dry but i doubt they could compete and win a strong man competition where some of the winners have beer bellies.
