Cowhide/springpole/flirt pole questions

Discussion in 'Sports & Activities' started by Karma_thepitbull, Feb 16, 2014.

  1. I just bought some cowhide from Springwater kennels. I put the bag in front of her she showed interest. Went to ace hardware and drilled a hole 2 inches and put the rope through. When I put the cowhide on the flirt pole she goes nuts and chases it till she can't but she can't hold it and play tug on it it. She tries, then when I put it on the springpole she will go play with it for 30 - 45mins at a time but does get a good hold on it. But she is extremely interested. But she doesn't tug on it like the rope but shows more interest in the hide then the rope. Any tips is she not bIG enough? Do I need to fold it? I saw something online about soaking it? Any tips I would greatly appreciate it. I'll post pix so you can see my set up. And my pit is 6 1/2 months old uploadfromtaptalk1392605669856.jpg

I recently got some hides from stillwater also. I did the same as you, i cut a hole about 2" in and tied the rope through it. My girl shows interest but she doesn't go crazy for it like she would when i had a toy squirrel on it. Also i let them sit out a few days so it's kind of hard and dried. I tried wrapping it in a damp towel and working it for about 20 min to soften it up. But still not sure how to generate interest like she had with a toy on the pole. If anyone has any suggestions for treating the hide or use of the hide with the pole I'd appreciate it.

Some dogs have higher prey drive than others you may want to try using the hide on a flirt pole for a little bit to spark interest then clipping it on your spring.
