    suposse all em big bull type or mastiff types are mosters to some degree.ofcourse some are shite,health problems,no garding instinkt ect.Witch is to be expected in this day and age.
    no doubt some would make colubus happy..but over all they are spent.
    there were a few Bull mastiffs when was growing up.never really liked em.to be honest im not a huge fan of gard dog breeds..ofcorse they are formidible and can protect you.but no dog can stop a bullet...
    whats the first thing some one hunting you with gun will do when they see that big dog?...
    i no plenty of theives and robbers and all admit to shooting the dog first.
    poachers in the 19th century made a high prority of shooting the gamekeepers gard dog(usally a bull mastiff)and quite rightfully so as dogs are better at hunting you down in the dark.something humans aint so good at.

    With all that said,they still make impressive house protecters.
    and a burgelare with out a gun dont stand a chance.the dog just being there is enough as a detarnt.

    I have new neighbors across the alley who have a American Staff / Presa Canario cross. Huge dog wouldn't want him after me. He barked at me and I almost got blown over! Crazy deep loud bark. There was 5 junkies smoking meth or crack behind there place last week the dog went wild on the other side of the chain link fence and the owner told them to get our of here or I will put my dog on you and he will bite. It's not a bad thing having a dog like that across from you where I live. Since China Virus hit crime around here is crazy now, some scum bags tried stealing my car last week. Our bleeding hart government let a shit load of prisoners out so Corona doesn't spread through the jail's/prisons and there defunding the police shit's getting crazy and hitting the fan on the getto ave where I live.

    I had one Fila that would defend our home and leave bodies. We actually staged some invasions and she performed as if she would kill whatever came thru the door. I had one female that protected at home, and in the home, but when we travelled to a show she had zero interest in protecting someone else's shit.

    I had a male that refused to live indoors. We would bring him in and he would make a lap or so around the house ensure all was well and then scratch the door. He slept on the ground in the rain, or in the snow. If we brought him in he would repeat the same. (Must have been a Red Boy gene in that Fila Blood somewhere way back)

    My friend had maybe the baddest Fila I have ever seen. She was a straight killer. I broke into her house with a a bite suit on and she knocked me down and never let up. So much so I thought she was going to pull the face mask off the football helmet.

    These are dogs that are far more liability than they are asset. And they will bite without regard or distinction. High five your buddy after the team scores and that is his ass. Shake your mother in laws hand and she loses a limb. Sort of crazy to have a gun to defend you home but whenever someone comes over you have to put the bullets in one room and the gun in the backyard. Sort of defeats the purpose.

    But....I left home to pull the night shifts knowing what ever dumb ass that kicked my door in would more than likely being laying there when I got back home.

    They are the better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6 kind of dog.

    We bought one once and she was delivered by the breeder as they were traveling near here on vacation.

    The first night she stood in the corner and growled when we approached. (9 weeks old). The next day she bonded with my wife and then my son. When I came home that night from work she stood between them and me and when I approached she would growl and show teeth. (again 9 weeks old).

    By the end of the weekend we had all bonded. We were the only three people that could be in the house when she was not crated. No one. My mother in law who lived next door and wa sin and out daily never made the cut.

    At 11 months I had her tested and she blew the trial out of the water. I truly believe she would have killed a grown man, yet curled up on the end of my son's bed like a 120lb couch potato. She would curl up in front of the chair on the floor and only raise her head if the door opened. If it were anyone else other than one of us, she went to straight phsycopath mode.

    Absolute liability. For every reason someone would say I want one, I could give ten reasons why they should not.

    So many of the defensive drive territorial breeds are along this way but the Filas just go to the other end of the spetrum.

    My reason was family/personal protection with out two plus years of committed training.

    Granted just about any dog will provide 99% of all the home security any one would ever need but the Fila is one of the few dogs that would handle the other 1%.

    I worked more than an hour from home and worked a lot of nights as well. When I left at night I felt comfortable with the security plan I had in place.

    When my child was small and he and my wife were alone that was all the reason I ever needed.

    They are not for everyone and they do not fit in every situation. But I weighed the pros and cons and the one pro outweighed all the cons.
