Imagine what everyone who witnessed it in person now feels towards the breed, it don't even matter that neither of those dogs were APBTs. To the public those are blood thristy pit bulls and there minds will most likely never change about it. The comment section was jumping with hate.

I have only had 1 incident where a dog got loose from my yard. About 7 years ago. It was actually my house not the yard. Some guy was walking a 100+ lb malamute minding his own buisness. Lil miss geach was a psychopath towards anything that moved outside of my home and she was always in my living room front window watching for something to bark at. Anyways, I was out back with my other dogs when I heard a bunch of screaming and commotion going on out front. I go inside and head to my front door to see what's going on. LMG had jumped threw the double pane glass of my front window and a storm window and had this Malamute in fetal position and it was wailing. Neighbors came out and the whole shabang. LMG was so deep in hold in this dogs side neck area and shaking it violently. You could only see her ears. The rest of her head was buried in all that fur. The owner is stomping on LMG while my girl at the time was tring to get hold of LMG. Both of them in panic mode. I casually walked into my dining room to grab a break stick and when I got back to the front door I witnessed one of the cleanest snatch n grabs I ever seen and I've seen it done and done it myself many times before. My ex had LMG in the air over her shoulder screaming for the the guy to get his dog and go as LMG was very determined to get back to the action and you could tell my ex was tiring in her hold. Geach was a very strong 46 lb female with very ill intentions for anything with fur, scales or feathers. My girl was 5'6" and about 120lbs. The guy left and she got LMG back into the house. I felt awful for the guy and his dog. I had figured he would take his dog home, take a look at the damage done and come back. Never happend and I never seen the guy walking around here again. I really wanted to apologize to the guy and even offer to pay any vet bills that resulted from the incident but like I said, never seen him again. My front yard looked like you threw a fur coat in a blender. I had 8 to 10 inch balls of fur all over the place like tumbleweeds. Awful situation that really could have caused some very bad legal problems for me. Thankfully it didn't. I now keep a gate up over my front window. Looks hokie as fuck but it keeps whichever dog is in my home at the time, where it belongs, inside contained.

When I get some free time later I'll share the story on how after 23 years of my parents being around my dogs how 1 bad decision on my fathers part changed their views of them instantly and probably forever. It's been 3 or 4 years now and my mother still is very reluctant to come to my house anymore because of the incident that happened.
Maybe on my lunch break, if not then when I get home.

 

Early eighties and living in a hamlet of just a few hundred people. Where the bulldogs were walked, I had never met a person.
My old crippled Heinzl / Patrick bitch is slowly walking twenty meters behind me while we were walking on an immense sand plain. It was a very hot summer day and you saw the old dog struggle with it. It was the only dog of mine that was sometimes allowed to get off the lead for a while as she was limping due to a badly healed broken hip.
There was a small sand hill in the distance and behind it an older couple with a great German shepherd appeared, the moment I saw them, '' Angel Dust '' was already on its way, faster than you might think for a dog that was so miserable, well at that moment you did not see it, she was there before embarrassing me, it was fun for that lame dog and it became breaking stick work, luckily little to no damage also because that old crazy bitch had almost no tooth in her mouth anymore. Never had a stop in it but couln't bite an hole in a paper bag. But so you see how to watch out. Never let them run loose and wear a breaking stick at all times.

Heard that a few times and always liked it.. Problem is I hardly learned from either!
I enjoy reading posts from people like AGK, Slim and FWK who willing to share their stories, both good and bad! An opportunity to learn from their experience and realise I'm not the only person who fucked up with these dogs.. FWK says "wear a breaking stick at all times" and of course he's right! but the UK specifically has become so prohibitive towards bull breeds and their owners, the police likely to view a breaking stick as a concealed weapon and even if you convinced them it's in case of accidental contact with another dog, the opportunistic bastards probably view your dog as the weapon and charge you anyway.. What I find unforgivable though is bull breed owners who don't know how - or never bothered to learn - or just too afraid to get in there and separate two dogs that's fighting.. Whole litters of Bull breed pups getting sold on Gumtree to posing perfume boys and their designer handbag girlfriends without them having the first clue on the DNA, character and precautions everyone needs to know about the dog that's pulling them along the street!

 

I was at work a few years back. My parents have always stopped at my house from time to time when they are in the city. Usually just to use the bathroom or drop something off etc.
I had 2 smith and foster cages in my dinning room. One was Little Miss Geachs the other was Charlies. They are litterally right next to each other with only 3 feet separating them. The parents stopped to use the bathroom. My mother went upstairs and my dad figured he would let my dog Charlie, who was in one of the cages, outside for me thinking It's doing me a favor. The only problem with that was that Geachs cage was empty which obviously means she is loose in the house somewhere. She has always been my housedog so you would think that would be known. Anyways, she was upstairs on my bed.

As soon as she heard the latch on the cage my dad was opening, she was downstairs meeting Charlie in my dining room face to face. The 2 were always my yards arch enemies. They absolutely looked for any opportunity to get at each other. Succeeded 3 times over the years while Geach was alive. Never ended well for Charlie but the mutt has heart so what can you do...
She however, had the vise too. Very heavy mouthed bitch. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would say at least
an 8. Charlie would be a 2 or 3 tops.

I have never in 41 years heard the kind of terror in my mothers voice as I did that day. I'll never forget it. I was at work and she kept calling my cell. I work in a OR so I can't exactly just pick up a phone if I'm scrubbed in. I get done and check my voicemail, my mothers in hyperventilating tears, shakey voice, saying I need to come home the dogs are loose etc. I can hear the dogs in the backround and my dads voice as well yelling for them to stop while he is trying to get them apart also can hear all the commotion from the dogs moving my dining room tables and chairs and nails on the hardwood. My parents are in their 60s. No experience in separating 2 dogs what so ever and have NEVER seen my dogs in that way. They loved my dogs for as long as I've been into them. I changed both of their stereotypical thoughts they had on the breed up until this day. I would take one with me to their house almost every sunday when I went there for dinner for decades. They know my dogs well. Except, I have always hid that version of them from them. They know the deal, just never seen it first hand before.

So, after I listen to the voicemail, I rush home which is about 3 miles with a damn light almost every single block. The dogs have been going at it now for 35 minutes from the time the voicemail was left. My daughter had come home from school, seen what was going on, froze up because of how my mom was reacting to the situation and ran to a neigbors house for help. Of course, she would run to the guy who is our neighborhood watch organizer lol. Like, could it get any worse, I remember telling her couldn't you find a different neighbor. She panicked, I get it.

By the time I get home, my dad and this neighbor had got them seperated. Using buckets of water on my 2 week old hardwood flooring and a fucking miracle since LMG was only coming out of hold to get a better one. My first floor looked like a god damn war zone. Both dogs mangled looking like hamburger meat in the face. Charlie obviously took a punishing. Geach was missing 3 front teeth, a broken cutter and one hell of a hematoma on her chest/armpit area. Also he got into her leg so she wasn't using it. Both of their faces totally fucked up. Charlie looked like a Shar-Pei. I was absolutely fucking livid. I don't think I have ever snapped on my dad like I did that day. With good reason.

To this day I can tell my mother is uneasy around my dogs so i no longer bring one with me to sunday dinner. I so notice her body language around them I had to eventually just tell her, they didn't change, they have always been that way you just never seen it. The only thing that has changed is you.

Needless to say they don't come and let any dogs out anymore which would you do that in the first place unless asked, especially seeing one cage already empty.

 

I'll be honest, when I take my dogs anywhere I never carry a breakstick and here is why.

1. The things are litterally the size of a horror movie butcher knife. Sticks at least 6 to 7 inches out of any one of my pockets. If I wear it around my neck like a necklace it makes people wonder and ask what it is and that just isn't a discussion I'm going to have with the public while walking one of these dogs.

2. If my dog is leashed and someone elses dog isn't, one of two things is going to happen. If the dog is smaller I will pick my dog up and stand my ground. Stomping and yelling at the dog. Most curs will back down, them fuckers that don't are getting the boots put them. If the dog is another bulldog type or larger breed, I'm shooting your damn dog plain and simple. We have a leash law for a reason and I would rather be charged with discharging a firearm in the city limits than the headlines PITBULL MAULS FAMILY PET, the articles after that would just get worse believe me...

I tend to walk more at night and out of the way of people and pets. Like railroad tracks and industrial parks. I never take my dogs to public parks, the pet store or anywhere they will be with in reaching distance of another animal. That's just reckless and negligent IMO if you own these dogs..

Where I come from, the game dog was of paramount importance. Since everyone is retired or dead, the game dog seems to have disappeared.Sometimes you come across a pit bull accompanied by young guests who, if you speak to them, know nothing but totally nothing about the dogs. If you ask them if they have a breaking stick, they don't know what you mean. If you explain what it is they look at whether you are the Yorkshire ripper and you get comments like '' isn't that painful and pathetic for the dog?! ""Often these dogs come from Poland and other Eastern bloc countries, often sold for a lot of money also to people who ensure that the shelters are overflowing with these dogs that are difficult to relocate.

 

Yes, both dogs healed up just fine over a few weeks time. I would have posted pics but I felt that would be a bit unwise to do so I left them out. My dad still is ok around my dogs and my mother gets a little better as time goes on but I can still tell she is uneasy around them the few occasions she has stopped here so I just try to make sure whoever is inside at that time is put away. It was traumatic to her to see that. She even said herself that she couldn't believe how violent they became over nothing. I just told her, now you know why I keep them all seperated at all times. I've spent a lot more time since then with my daughter showing her and telling her what she needs to do in such situations and who she can run to for help and who she can't. My parents said they almost called the police because they couldn't get them apart. I told them don't you ever do that. They would have shot both my dogs. I said I'd rather you just sit back and let it go. I'd rather have one live dog than 2 dead ones. Plus the can of worms that would open up would be a repeat of what they did to my buddy Wardog Kennels.

Like slim said, when you have these dogs for any length of time an accident is bound to happen. All it takes is one little miscalculation, forget one is out loose already, hardware malfunctions etc. Plus dogs that do not tolerate the presence of other animals and it's a recipe for an accident.

The one originally posted though was 100% preventable if people would just realize what's at the other end of their leash. People got that It's how you train or raise them mentality with these dogs and it's just not true with dogs bred for performance. Hell, as you can see from the video it's not even a good idea for dogs that are not bred to perform. Some dogs just dont like other dogs or even just a particular dog. Even dogs that do good with other dogs are going to react when confronted by one who isn't. Throw in the dogs have no were to get away from eachother because of the aisles and boom, instant headlines...

 

Lol Slim .why in the hell don't people get it ! I got a neighbor way down the road who has some aorta Pit mix and ive pleaded with.her not to let her run free.Its a female and luckily so far all my dogs have done was try to hump her lol.ive been there every time so just a minute or so interaction before I grabbed her up.She finally put her on a runner and no more incidents.But man you talking about a heart attack when you see a neighbors dog running free in your yard ! Dam.
