No prob, it's all good. We just disagree here. :-B
For me a great breeder is just someone who was/is breeding his own dogs.
Because 'real' breeding takes some time ...
Showing Jeep and talking about breeding ... hhmmmm I don't know.
Well, ok, if we take a look at his 'real' ped ... :-$
I have nothing against JC or his dogs. He was a great dogman, conditioner, handler. And he got an eye for a dog. Very successful guy, nothing wrong with him.
But a great breeder ? Maybe, but I don't think so. Just look at his last dogs and where they came from. B-)

I dont want to get involved in some petty pointless thread here, but stick i got that book and dont remember seeing that,i also seen his yard vid and from memory he had way more dogs than 12 and there were deffo bitches on it ,cos i remember him checking if a bitch was in season by inserting his finger into the bitch, then rubbing his finger on a tree lol.

Yep, I could be wrong. Was reading the book a long time ago. But I'm 'pretty sure' it's coming from his book.
12 dogs at one time. If he got a new one, one had to go. No females, because he did not need dogs in heat. He kept dogs in shape (keep).
The females he 'choosed' for 'his' breedings had to be very game.
That's what I remember reading in his book, but again, I could be wrong.
The yard vid you got is prob from times when he was already in the puppy and stud market.
And didn't he had 2 or more yards at that time ? Big puppy mill, all tax-free. And did this not caught some extra attention on him ?

Well the yard vid was done by some eastern european guys if i remember right,so commentary is not very good,i got it here somewhere and the book is upstairs, forgive me if im wrong,i will have a look in the book tomorrow.different time zone over here stick and its late evening now,but all very interesting anyhow.

I don't know any breeders of noted dogs who never sold breedings to the public? Not saying there aren't any, just I can't think of one right now.. Most get seduced by the mighty dollar eventually.. Some folks referred to Fletcher Chavis as 'GOD', such was his personal standing and the reputation of his dogs, he still sold them though! Katie Marlowe sold dogs, so did Kenny Gaines, Don Brodt, Ozzie Stevens, Bob Lowery, Patrick, STP, Tant, Hall, Lonzo and Mountain Man.. If Crenshaw had a puppy mill, I only wish I'd pulled up at his driveway with crates and a pile of money.. I remember seeing around 20 Rascal crosses on a yard not far from me, bought direct off Crenshaw with help of Ricky Jones.. They wouldn't all have made grade, but keen enough to keep you busy for a while.

I get your point. Well, maybe it's just me, but I like them 'hidden' dogmen/breeder better.
Sure, it's harder to get a 'deal' with those not so well known guys, but you might get something that not many more are able to get.
Do you really believe all the things you can read or hear from people ? How do they know that they don't know, if they don't know ? :-/
Personally, I don't like the hyped up dogs and stuff. But I'm the stickler and I'm for sure not like anybody else.
But I got what I was looking for. And I only got it, because ... it's me, the stickler. I'm different.
I was not even asking for a breeding. "Just send me the dogs you think I need for the future. And I know, even if I get green dogs from you, that I will be happy."
A good breeder is one thing. A good honest breeder is another thing. :-O

Lots of the other well known breeders will sell you what you are asking for. Well, people like Carver back in those days are always producing huge litters, just in case ;):D

20 Rascal crosses ? I mean, does this sound so good to you ?
I would not have took a single one for free. But again, that's just me.
I only bought 2 dogs from a 'real' breeder. And I got 'the one'. Got always the chance to get 'more', even first picks, but ...
I mean, really, it's all about percentages. For me culling is no fun :-B

Ricky Jones bought 60 dogs off Crenshaw around same time, done a lot of culling and he owned GR.CH.Sandman.. STP sold dogs to the Eastern Europeans, but he owned GR.CH.Buck.. You bought 2 dogs from a 'real' breeder and got 'the one'... No doubt you're happy with your dog and if it's worthy of being mentioned in same post as Buck or Sandman, then I salute you sir!

I don't have dogs anymore. And it's also not meant as an offense to you or JC or to all who keep this kind of dogs.
Just don't take this so personal. Or is this about who got the biggest ... ? Really, I don't care so much ...

Maybe breeder/breeding just means something different to me as it does to you.
To me, a breeder is one who is breeding his own dogs for generations. And the dogs he bred have to show 'the signs', that the breeder is breeding for (style, personality, gameness, ability, mouth, color, ...). If the dogs are good or bad is another story. A 'real' breeder will raise or fall with HIS dogs.
    Percentages ! Average !

I wrote my opinion more than once on this board. And it's more or less all about percentages.
If I would be a breeder, then ,percentage-wise and with my 'special' view, I would not be able to use dogs, that carry i.e. the Bullyson or inbred Dibo blood, in my breeding program.
This automatically eliminates, i don't know, maybe 90% of ALL dogs already ? Get my point ?
What's left ? Mostly the Spike x Black Widow stuff. And so it goes ...

Thank you ! But no need to call me sir, sir.
    :D
