THIS ISN’T MEANT TO START SHIT!! (Well, not too much>:))
What is the allure of the Colby line today? Being able to say you own part of the oldest family in America? After you breed a couple generations and crosses, they become your dogs anyways. I’ve never heard of anyone that already has access to working dogs go looking for a Colby dog to breed to. Maybe I’m just not in the circle deep enough?? What drew you to Colby dogs if you’ve owned one?

I called Mr Lou in about 97-98 inquiring about a dog. Things were a little more loose then so I had to ask. I said, “Mr. Colby no disrespect, but can the Colby dogs still do what they are supposed to?” I’ll never forget it. He chuckled and said, “son, they’ll do anything any other bloodline can do.” It felt like askin granddad about the war. I wanted him to give me details, all he gave me was a vague ass answer. The pups were 700 before shipping. At that time you could have gotten waaaaaaay better stock for the same or lower prices. Almost everyone was sellin to the public. Joe Blow could have bought Mayday or “insert dog” as a pup back in the 90s

So I’m not a Colby hater. I’m just curious as of owning one now.

1st of these are good valid questions. As you said The Colby line is the oldest purest line on the planet, I personally have a great Deep Respect for what J.P. Colby did even through the great depression to keep his line not only alive but hands down The Greatest line of The American Pitbull Terrier the World has ever seen. A fact that's overlooked and shouldn't be is this. 95% of all Bulldogs will take us back to the Colby yard. Of course Louis Colby continued to breed his Fathers line. I'm in the Carolinas and when the internet became a tool along with online peds about every Bulldog that I followed back took me back to the Colby yard. Other Folks just put there name on it as you said. So I came to my own conclusion, why don't I get a pair of The Adam & Eve of this Worlds Greatest Breed. Well being a southern boy unknown to the Mr Lou, and Bulldog world , The work began. C-note you said that you didn't know of anyone with access to working dogs go looking for a Colby Dog to breed too? Many of the great Dogmen & breeders such as "Fatbill " were taking bitches to Mr Colbys yard to breed with ""Colbys Logan " ECT. I will continue later.

Yes Sir. I just used Logan as s exsample. Keep in mind , Not many breeders would show there recipe for success. Paper hangers. C- note asked why would a good breeder with his own family of Bulldogs want to go back and breed into pure Colby? Answer is after years of breeding your own family of hounds and you start to lose certain traits such as ammune system, Ability to heal after a hunt , ECT. Breeding back to Colby would refreshen the gene pool , Rather than Pollute it. Why? Because if you truly trace your family of hounds back , you will end up back at the Colby yard. So now the question of what is the advantage of owning a Colby hound now? If you could get a good pair, from a good breeder, I only know of one breeder who breeds his hounds true to there original origin. His name is own some of Logan's offspring. I am friends with Brian C.
Mr Lou, as other great Dogmen has to be very careful in what he said on the phone and how he said it. Same holds true today. The advantage is if they turn out to be a Real Honest Bulldogs you would have something very special. http://www.apbt.online-pedigrees.com/modules.php?name=Public&file=printPedigree&dog_id=632456
