Here in the states we cross pitbulls with whippets for coyote hunting. We use the whippets Blood to help run down the coyote and the pit side to Kill it. The Whippets Blood is just for run down the coyote that's all.

You would do better making the cross with a Greyhound mate.

A Greyhound cross will have more speed and more finish, a no brainer really. Do you have access to Greyhound blood?.

I thought size for size a whippet is just as fast as a Grey hound. I know their quicker and way more agile than a Grey hound. I figured breeding to a Grey hound would just make the offspring bbigger.Adding The right pit should give you all the Finnish you need.
    I'm not saying anybody's wrong.
I got no hands on experience with the topic.
Just trying to stimulate the convo so to speak

  7. Many years ago over here.just before the Staffordshire Bull Terrier was registered.the Bull cross Whippet was a popular cross.the cross was used for the rabbit coursing meets.these meets were popular in the Midlands.but these meets were quickly declining, along with the rat pits.the 1911 cruelty to animals act,(which was basically reinforcing the 1835 baiting act.)brought an end to both sports.I believe what ever dogs were left were crossed with the pit dogs(Bull)and with English Bull Terriers.also with SHOW Bulldogs(the pug cross Bull/pit dogs).and these dogs became registered as Staffordshire Bull Terriers.when they became registered, the false history that was made up was that these Staffordshire Bull Terriers were the real old or original fighting or pit dogs.they were to some degree.but they were definitely crossed.anyways, I think these whippet bull crosses are why the Staffordshire Bull Terriers have some blue in some of there coats......by the way that reason for crossing bulls and whippets was the dog had to course around thirty rabbits what had just been released in to an enclosure.it was said pure whippets could only run (consistently)up to about fifteen to twenty rabbits.then they would just collapse or quit.hence putting bull blood in there. the bull blooded ones would work them all!!!..please don't confuse this with a nights lamping with whippets for rabbit.as in the coursing meets the dog would run one the another straight after each other till it had ran them all!!!....sorry for the ramble,i just like talking doggy history.....David 63 I have to say what a unusual cross to use for Coyote hunting, and I have to agree with Cockney Rebel.cross your Pit dogs to coursing Greyhounds..the cross is phenomenal..and I could see them taking Coyote all day and night.tell me, do these whippet cross pit dogs take some stick taking on a full grown Coyote?????..because if they do,the pit dog greyhound cross is what your after!!!!!..............it's a cross I would love to do.but I don't have space..................or time lol.............................

  8. Feck me.I haven't a clue lol.......so what your saying is basically,if you use a Bulldog, use a big hard biting one.lol.??.......do you think it could go either way??.y'know, could the dog die??...Feck me I did not think it was that serious!!.lol...I am a idiot..........also,would you even let it go all the way???....I mean if I'm hunting,I don't want my dog or the quarry bucherd.I want it over as fast and as humanely as possible..which is another reason(on top of the live stock what's round)why I don't take them.because well I know there vermin and spread t.b..kill chickens exc,..but there not on my land,I don't have live stock.so I have no need to kill a wild animal.if my live stock was in danger, then they would be culled.but I think they are awesome little critters, and have no need to unesersy cull them........but I would still love to see it.lol..............

  9. I imagined the cross (bull/whippet)to be to frail for Coyote.bull/Greyhound would be well stronger, with more finish...I have no experience in this stuff either......just love the working dog talk!!.....Bull/Greyhound can pop a big dog red foxes scull in under a minute!!!!.with out even getting bit!!..lol.some get bit,but you no what I mean...it's a awesome cross!!!................

A Greyhound is faster and has more staying power, the Whippet is probably quicker out the box though.

A Badger won't kill a Bulldog on top of the ground no as it will do just enough to survive. Most Lurchers won't kill a Badger either, they are as tough as old boots that i do know. A true test for a Bulldog is another Bulldog IMO and nothing else.

A friend caught one in a trap one time, was a young female. He and his buddy were drinking a little and thought it would be cool to take her in the house and feed her as she was real stoic.
They kept her a couple days, fed her bbq right out of their hands, she was still as a statue. When they released her, he said she took off so fast it was a blur, never looked back. lol

    Crazy fuckers!! :D
