Soze,i have not got the book in front of me,but from what i remember,the dog was predominantly a reddish chocalate colour with little bits of white.I really dont want to go on with this,im a busy man and whilst i woudnt mind personally the mrs is starting to get seriously pissed off with the time im spending on the computer.

 

Yes i have the book soze, it is not for sale,but i understand Mr Brown has had it reprinted I would advise you to get it now if you can, while it is still in print because when it is sold out you will have to pay crazy money for it. Now that is definitely my last comment on this post.

I know both Harrys sons and daughter plus his grandsons !!! also like yourself had many a conversation with Harry so can relate to your comments on what he said to you !! Harry passed away a few years ago ,the last of Harrys dogs died late last year October aged 17 his eldest son kept him after Harry passed if hes the one you know initial C he passed away the week after the dog !!!

 

Castle,sorry to hear Harry passed on,i never knew his sons in fact i wasn,t aware he had any,but i did meet his daughter and son in law a few times,and also his uncle Bill Johnson,who was another old black country dog man,and Harrys nephew Peter,who i believe was Bill,s son.Harry gave me a load of photos once of some of his older dogs,you would never know that they were not APBTs,but i cant find them ,i got a feeling they are up my old dads attic,when im up there next im going to try and dig them out and see if i can post them.I was only a young man when i knew Harry but what i woudnt give now for one last conversation with him.He was a very good boxer in his youth as well and boxed some famous fighters,and was a war hero.He actually had a VC medal on his mantlepiece,which i believe was awarded to one of his uncles in the 1st world war.They certainly dont make them like him no more..

 

In the pic Freddy Philips with Cradbury Marys Pal on the right and Harry Rogers on the left with Unwanted Girl ,the man in the middle is Bill Johnston .I would be interested in seeing the pics you have I got a couple from him myself one of one of his dogs standing in front of a red door ,plus another interesting one of a dog called Rebeccas Pat which was a KC registered staff but a cross bull terrrier staff that was legitimately KC approved bred into KC stock I wouldn't know the daughter you mention she would have been second family ....Harry previously had been married to an Irish girl two sons and a daughter there all had staffs and pits !!

I used to have a copy of the top photo castle,Harry is on the left like you say,but Fred is in the middle and that is Bill on the right.I know Harry lived in Ireland for a time,and you have got me wondering if the lady i met was actually his niece,although i was led to believe at the time it was his daughter.I know Peter at one time had some Reid dogs.Last time i saw Fred he had suffered a stroke,and he passed away not long after,he used to have some kind of SBT exibition at stourbridge castle,apperently it was like a small museum,i know a lot of the Rogers and johnston family dog stuff was on display but i never visited it personally.Thank you for posting these.

 

That photo is a bit confusing because for some reason Bill is actually holding Freds dog.

I think that photo also appeared in one of Freds magazines,Harry always used to joke that if he ever sent Fred any photos of his dogs ,they often showed up in one of Freds mags as a Cradbury dog.
