Lows in the teens the last two days and the high not even above freezing. That's terribly cold for TX. Damn, I hate the cold. So do the dogs. Tomorrow I'll see a high of 45 so we'll unthaw some. 60s this weekend so that will be nice.

We are at 15 this morning. We are also going to be getting hit with snow tonight into tomorrow. The weekend calls for bone chilling temperatures.

Went to the gym at 5 AM this morning and it was -3. I hate this weather, why I don't move back down south is beyond me. The snakes, spiders and no-see-ems are less of a deterrent than they used to be.

Living in the south, you'd have to deal with extreme heat for the dogs too, so you're trading one adverse climate for another. (hope that makes you feel better ;-)

A friend of mine does heated flooring in the 'dog house' portion of his kennels for his yard dogs. Said it was a PITA to put in, but he swears by it now. I think he said it ran him about 10 bucks a square foot. He ran the coils under the existing concrete that his houses sit on top of.

Heat is much easier to deal with. Lol.
Much less painful too. I myself love 90+ degree weather. I'd rather deal with heat.

I like the heat better too. I get seasonal depression. (well, at least I think I do, I've never been officially dx). But I found when I was living in GA and the weather was nicer, I didn't get the winter blues like I do now in Ohio.

Bama, what do you guys do with the dogs in the heat? Water and shade? Do you keep a baby pool or anything for them to cool off in?

    -6 wind chill this morning.

We have freezing temperatures every year. Nothing strange about that. But what happens is that is just about always gets above freezing during the day.

This week we are staying below freezing during the day and really below freezing at night.

Big props out to the guys out there that do this on the regular. I'm feeding and watering twice per day. Doing a meaty chicken broth in the morning. That way they will go ahead a lap it all up as the same amount of water would freeze. Then at night they get their feed drenched in the broth again. Then bowls topped off with more broth.

Everyday since last Sunday. Three or four more days to go. If I had to do it every day of the winter or even the majority of days, I would rethink some things.

I've been saying 'Fuck this' since last Sunday. 12 hour night shifts this week, an hour plus in the morning and an hour ro so before I go back. For me, "Fuck this", basically just started the sentence. It got verbally worse from there. LOL

Guys who do the dogs in areas where this is the norm have a brand new respect from me.

If it were like this all winter I would take up fucking checkers. LOL

    Lmfao @ take up checkers.

Like with anything in life, you learn to adapt if it's really something you want to do.

On the bright side, the northerners or anyone in a place that is a frozen tundra for months on end don't much ever have to deal with hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes etc. It's a trade off I suppose. I bitch and moan all winter but really, we get through it year after year.

Currently out it is 7 degrees with a windchill of -15°. This season so far we have a total of 132 inches of snowfall for this winter. On the bright side, shootings here are down 98%. Lmao, I guess snow and cold deter murder somehow. I'm a glass half full kind of guy.

We had a stretch here with a really high murder per capita rate. Ranked right up there with the big city numbers.

But you are right, there is nothing like 8 degree weather to drop the murder rate. It may be the best deterrent of all.

It's 88 outside and "I'll pop that mofo regardless if the state has the death penalty or not, I ain't scared of prison", Same scenario but it is 8 degrees and "when it's 88 outside in five months from now I'm going to pop his ass".

I can see the thought process.

It is what you get used too/what you adapt too. If there is the bright spot out there, ours is suppose to be the extended frozen streak should make the flea and tick season a little more bearable. Like the murderers, I will let you know when it gets to 88 four or five months from now.

AGK, thanks for the new outlook for today. LOL

Just read about that. We'll get a break starting tomorrow. It's supposed to raise to mid 20''s tomorrow then the mid to upper 30''s by Wednesday. Everyone I've talked to is like, I can't wait for the warm up lmao. Pretty bad when your looking forward to 30 degree weather. Its zero degrees currently with a windchill of -16.

Had to bring one of my males inside because I am having trouble keeping weight on him in this cold and while he looks OK to me, maybe a little thin, definite for this kind of weather a neighbor may not feel the same way so to avoid a can of worms getting opened up I just opted to bring him in this morning. Once it's in the 30s I'll be OK putting him back out. He could probably use 4 lbs and still not look like he should in these temps.. I'll limit is activity while over feeding him and he will still stay rail thin athletically type built.

Looks like a black racing greyhound. Lol.

I am not sure you can feed them enough during these nights. I have a hard keeping female that has one house she sleeps in and one she fights for hours on end. She is fed three to for times what her body would suggest. After this week I could up that another chunk as well.

Another one of the reasons I would take up checkers. LOL

Very true. I'm already feeding 5 cups a day in 2 feeding's. The dinner feed also gets a half a lb of deer meat in it with the kibble. I always soak my feed any time of the year to ensure they get enough water. in comparison, my maintenance feeding for this dog is 2 cups normally any other time of the year. I had a dog a few years back, Redrum. I always had issues keeping weight on him as well. It seems to be easier for me to put weight on my shorter, squattier built dogs than it is my gangly long leggers.
