Whats the Temp??

We are at 15 this morning. We are also going to be getting hit with snow tonight into tomorrow. The weekend calls for bone chilling temperatures.

 

Went to the gym at 5 AM this morning and it was -3. I hate this weather, why I don't move back down south is beyond me. The snakes, spiders and no-see-ems are less of a deterrent than they used to be.

 

Living in the south, you'd have to deal with extreme heat for the dogs too, so you're trading one adverse climate for another. (hope that makes you feel better ;-)

A friend of mine does heated flooring in the 'dog house' portion of his kennels for his yard dogs. Said it was a PITA to put in, but he swears by it now. I think he said it ran him about 10 bucks a square foot. He ran the coils under the existing concrete that his houses sit on top of.

 

Heat is much easier to deal with. Lol.
Much less painful too. I myself love 90+ degree weather. I'd rather deal with heat.

 

Although most southern's are getting a dose of the cold currently along with most of next week.

 

I like the heat better too. I get seasonal depression. (well, at least I think I do, I've never been officially dx). But I found when I was living in GA and the weather was nicer, I didn't get the winter blues like I do now in Ohio.

 

Bama, what do you guys do with the dogs in the heat? Water and shade? Do you keep a baby pool or anything for them to cool off in?

Like with anything in life, you learn to adapt if it's really something you want to do.

On the bright side, the northerners or anyone in a place that is a frozen tundra for months on end don't much ever have to deal with hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes etc. It's a trade off I suppose. I bitch and moan all winter but really, we get through it year after year.

Currently out it is 7 degrees with a windchill of -15°. This season so far we have a total of 132 inches of snowfall for this winter. On the bright side, shootings here are down 98%. Lmao, I guess snow and cold deter murder somehow. I'm a glass half full kind of guy.

Just read about that. We'll get a break starting tomorrow. It's supposed to raise to mid 20''s tomorrow then the mid to upper 30''s by Wednesday. Everyone I've talked to is like, I can't wait for the warm up lmao. Pretty bad when your looking forward to 30 degree weather. Its zero degrees currently with a windchill of -16.

Had to bring one of my males inside because I am having trouble keeping weight on him in this cold and while he looks OK to me, maybe a little thin, definite for this kind of weather a neighbor may not feel the same way so to avoid a can of worms getting opened up I just opted to bring him in this morning. Once it's in the 30s I'll be OK putting him back out. He could probably use 4 lbs and still not look like he should in these temps.. I'll limit is activity while over feeding him and he will still stay rail thin athletically type built.

Very true. I'm already feeding 5 cups a day in 2 feeding's. The dinner feed also gets a half a lb of deer meat in it with the kibble. I always soak my feed any time of the year to ensure they get enough water. in comparison, my maintenance feeding for this dog is 2 cups normally any other time of the year. I had a dog a few years back, Redrum. I always had issues keeping weight on him as well. It seems to be easier for me to put weight on my shorter, squattier built dogs than it is my gangly long leggers.
