Staff in UK?

Looking at getting a house dog for the family, I'm working away constantly and the lady doesn't like being alone with our baby.

Thinking of getting a Staff as they are great family dogs, i don't want one of those fat useless little barrels though. What's the best athletic lines going? Cheers.

 

Dogs homes are over flowing with staffs ,plenty are athletic ,for a pet pedigree isnt an issue.

 

To me it is, i don't want a fat barrel that has to be rolled for a walk. I wouldn't get no dog from a home when i have young children.

 

You dont want a working type strain with a high prey drive being left at home and spoilt by a woman,fed from hand,allowed on sofa,maybe not exercised enough,and left with your small children either.Maybe i'm presuming the worst,only you know how your wife would be as an owner of this type of dog. But think wisely...

Not at all, i wouldn't fully trust a dog i raised as a pup with my kids let alone a strange dog.

 

Fair enough with the statement, the dog will get plenty of exercise with me but like you said the Mrs ain't going to have the time to go out on taxing walks.

Not going to happen. Getting a staff from game lines is hard for even dogmen let alone pet homes.. Few still keep it and will only give to close. End of day they all come from show lines and then were worked most we're crossed with pit bulls most serious dogmen switched to apbt.

You want a athletic game bred staff get a pitbull

Put it this way i know I'd rather raise a dog from a pup with the family than get a strange dog out of a home.

 

I said an athletic animal, the dogs are out there. I ain't getting one of those grotesque liitle things masquerading as one.

 

Dont know about now,but twenty years ago your best bet would have been the south wales valleys,or merseyside areas.

 

For athletic staffs try 'risky's kennels', they sell plenty. Good looking mostly traditional types but fire is bred out on the whole.

After reading your link its no wonder the fires going out,never heard anything quite like it. Not so traditional after all. Make a great pet for you anyway which is what cockney rebel was after.
