Whats the Temp??

16 degrees here and over 5 feet of snowfall since christmas. Expecting another 12 to 18 inches by tomorrow afternoon. I don't ever remember a time in my 39 years that there has been this much snow. Totally insane.
Dogs doing alright though in it. We figured wind into the equation when setting up the kennels. Worked out well.

-21F here cold as a witches tit. Got a little time off work for Christmas up until then weather was mild as soon as I get some time off hell freezes over. Would of rather been at work than pacing around the house for a week.

 

It's not too cold out here currently. 16 degree's. It's the amount of snow that is a real pain in the back, neck and shoulders.

Just took this about an hour ago. Been shoveling since 8am. If I ever die, I'd imagine my personal hell would look something equivocal.

Thanks BB. They aren't done yet. I didn't have enough time before the ground froze to finish 2 more kennels and the divider panals or roof yet. It's a work in progress that's been put on hold until spring. This is how it looked before the tethering laws. I liked it better then.

-20F in this photo of my back yard from a hour ago. Got snow early this year late September. Most of it melted was pretty mild until a week ago. Pretty sure the poor dogs piss freezes before it hits the ground.

 

Like us I guess the dogs adapt somewhat to the weather, with some assistance. But this breed isn’t designed for cold temps IME. My shepherds will still swim for the ball in sub 48-50 degree pool water, but the APBT barks at me like, “nah”..or maybe one jump in and right out to confirm it.

 

I agree. We give them the best chance to be as comfortable as possible in this crazy weather. From fully insulating the dog houses that's walls, ceiling and floor along with straw added or changed weekly to making sure water buckets are always unfrozen, shoveling out the snow daily to keep them from having to stand in it. Warm meals twice a day and rotation into the house on alternating days. I'm constantly checking ears and paw pads. Can't express the importance of taking care of their feet in this kind of weather. I keep a pretty close eye on them in the winter. Coming up on my 23rd year doing this in this climate and I have yet to loose one to the cold. ( knock on wood).
I dont recommend this lifestyle to anyone yet I myself can't imagine life any other way since it's the only place I know. Believe me, I'd much rather live down south or out west in the warmer states but it's most likely not in the cards for me for at least a decade and by then it's almost like what would be the point, I'll be in my 50s. So I make it work. Many people live in shitty climate, I ain't special. Lmao.

Woke up to -16 yesterday. With a wind chill of -36. We haven't had temperatures this low in a long time.

 

Bout 12 ° in eastern pa and talks of a nor easter coming up the coast.
