Puppy with allergies?

Discussion in 'Health & Nutrition' started by Bagdadbulldog, Jan 7, 2017.

  1. IMG_0482.JPG Ima find a butcher shop around here and try to get some deal on some meat. But what dry dog food should I feed my pup ? I switched him to Victor puppy and active adult about a week and a half ago don't see any changes?(was feeding a sams club brand before).... Should I give the victor more time or switch ? My buddy says diamond naturals lamb and rice. What are some opinions?

I have one or 2 with food allergies. I feed diamond naturals chicken and they all do good on it. No issues. Taste of the wild is another one my dogs always did good with. Takes a few weeks for the hair to grow back. If the dog is still chewing and digging at itself I'd switch feed to something else. I use cortisone shampoo once a week when the one I have gets looking like the one you posted. Helps stop the itching so it can heal. Finding the right food is a real pain in the ass. Good luck.

Try a grain free formula. You don't know if he is allergic to a certain meat or grains. But like AGK said, give it a week or so. But I would definitely try something grain free or do some research and feed a balanced raw diet.

  4. He has been on grain free since we got him and even before we got him. I'll see what the diamond does and see about butchers around in my area.

My dog has beef allergies. I feed orijen six fish and raw pork. I would switch to a food such as orijen six fish that has one animal protein source and go from there. If the allergies do not improve in a few days switch to another protein source. The dog will usually smell as well if it has allergies. Black dogs and blue dogs seem to be more common to allergies. Fish protein is uncommon for a dog to be allergic to followed by pork then chicken, beef seems to be the most common. I would get some shapleys MTG to put on the coat to grow hair back. Also feeding a spoon full of honey with the dogs food and a vitamin called Nuvet can help the allergies. If it gets worse I would give the dog a pill of benadryll.

That is true you can breed two dogs that have zero allergies and the pups might get allergies and vise versa. I have found that black dogs and blue dogs (diluted black gene) are more common to have allergies from the dogs I have been around and have know idea why. You have a fine looking pit bulldog and once you find out what the allergies are you are set! The hard part is trying to figure out what the allergies are. Like I said before I would feed a kibble such as Orijen six fish that only has fish protein and NOTHING else but water and see what happens. I know a lot about dogs with allergies and I will try to help you the best I can. Please keep me updated on the dogs allergies and feel free to PM me with any questions you might have.

Hello Bagdadbulldog, It's true when you think it's a food problem, that you've to eliminate start with 1 protine source.
It's isn't easy with kibble but there are some brands like Orijen, and Acana Box Bulldog already say it.
To eliminate I've heard and read good results when feeding raw, If raw prey model is to difficult you can try that ready made meat complete. (That's grinded meat, bones, organs, and veggies and or herbs) From petstore, supermarket?, or from Internet (webpethops)

I have some links for you, for Season/envirement allergies, and also food related allergies.
So you've something to read LOL.

  17. Okay sorry I took it different! Your right and I never seen it this bad I had his cousin he was only 3xs el negro up close had one area on his back I just rubbed nu-stock on it it was fine.

  18. Not a food allergy ! Put him on raw and he was just the same dry skin. Hasn't been red, bumpy skin,or really itchy. I've been doing research and I think it's dry skin from living conditions (living in a apartment ). I read the air inside can affect some dogs skin. Kuda will be staying on my buddies yard since he offered and has a open chain spot.
