I know the we started the ball rolling for the Americans when we shipped our Pit Dogs over the pond all those years ago but they improved our dogs through selective breeding without a doubt.

I guess in some small circles some dogmen over these parts kept their dogs true to form but I think most would agree they weren't quite the all round fightung dogs the Americans had.

I know when the Bulldog boom came back over here in the 70's and 80's we started importing dogs off the Americans and had some good results. I know Ed Reid made a name for himself and bred some very handy dogs indeed which beat some well known dogmen.

What do you think are the best dogs the British Isles have ever seen, opinions please......

Yep Max was a good one and beat the bigger Limey's Smokey, a very impressive feat despite his win being controversial. Those dogs had some wind alright...

Me, Limey dogs for their achievements from a good breeding program keeping a small gene pool for maximum results.

Where do I start ,Dutch not only was he a good dog but he produced but dogs like ghoster who lost to the roosters Lisa and hector L2 W1 but had the heart of a lion, look at neilson Dutch bred and at his weight was outstanding but when he lost to dread something like 15lb to 20lb up hill they questioned him why ? He was entitled to, Dread was a good big dog.

Ch Dutch was a gyp that stopped in her last. Hector was her brother, he was a 2xL. Ghoster was a younger sister from the 2nd Nelis/Tug mating's.
Ch Neilson is rom, Popeye isn't thought of as a legit rom by ppl around during that era. Ch Dread was an ok dog that never met one as large as himself.

There you go,my first dog came of dirty H so I was around the first litter of tug X Neil's I think that was the hector / prudance litter at the time he had Bruno wise bred the second litter was ghoster/ fatso litter I think, like I said dread was a good big dog but would he have been as good at 45lb ? Jury out on Popeye they said he quit ? But told another story.

If anyone reads J Kelly's book Smokey had previously lost/quit in the US in 11 min after his two prior wins. Fatso from the first Nelis/Tug litter. Prudence from Spike/Tug.

As for what was the greatest is an impossible question to answer. No only have you the titled dogs to choose from there were a few around that never gained a title that were every bit as good as any titled dog I saw.

More than 30 lol. Bruce's Bella I heard the name, never knew how she was bred or ever saw her. Isn't she the gyp hooked into Tug but was over weight when they took the forfeit?
