Seen some old 50s and 50s yf&m magiznes in which people like Mr.Boudreaux and others in the south at that time were using some cat and cur crosses,,,
one of which one against famous old dogman...

If thats the type of cur your talking...

If your talking a cur scratching for a human,,, Im sure its happened more times than we could imagine,,,
does them scratching for thier handeler and might not otherwords make them a cur???

I personally dont have any experience but like both topics and either or both would be of interest...

Chicken Sam would condition those old Brownlow dogs by swimming them. Put them in the swimming pool and go off on his garbage route for awhile. He would say " they'll swim or sink". He wasn't the one to make a cur dog scratch was he, trot?

I saw one at A match in North Texas, some fellas came from Holland I believe, they had A pretty good dog. but one thing I noticed was the dog was starting to look for the door. I guess it was the guy who raised him went to the other corner, and was calling his across! He finally quit, but he got I think about A half doz. more scratches out of him!
I meet A guy in Shreveport years ago, he was just hounding people to sell him A match dog, I kept telling him slow down it will happen your go'n to fast! Well somebody sold him one, I told him he got burned the kids house pet down the road can whip that! Ruffeled his feathers, I said I'll bet you $50 he said lets make that $200 OK. Went down the road grabed the guy who owned the dog and his girl friend. I saw how well she had trained this dog and this dog did every thing she said! So the fight was on he was A ruff as hell cur, turn called at about 15 min. I told the girl to stand at the other corner when her dog was to scratch call him we started A scratching contest the other dog stood the line! If he would have bought A better dog we would have lost. It can be done but I'd sure as hell hate to relie on that to win! hwm you look way back on those Brownlow Dogs and they came from some pretty good red nose stock he just let his breeding program go! Chicken Sam had A few good ones one I remember was Gator Lou, pretty good dog when I saw her go. If they lived through his keep thet were good to go! He'd go all over Houston looking for dogs to test and he'd win with them! Just go'n through and reading I remember the dog trained to scratch, Hay A win is A win LOL

He had A good eye, he'd go out and find some good ones, he knew people all over Houston, I remember stopping by Dickeson and hanging out, pretty kool guy! I remember when his Chicken Shack got raided, I think he beat it!! Hard to do for A black man back then in Texas!

I've seen some that seemed like they were only there to scratch. They had no talent, no bite, no emotion, no passion to fight, but, they would scratch all night. Seen more than just a few of that kind.

Yep saw a few that just liked to be there but seemed to not have a clue what to do or just not the skills one or the other. But will run back and try every chance given...

    Great read Trotline and HWM,,,
I heard of a house dog that would scratch on command and the handeler would trick the adversary that the dog was quitting and get the bets going...
alot thought this type of dog was cur and thought they could beat him,,, well finally he met the champion killer and lost his life but not his heart...

Another story on the dog is that the one and only time he was almost counted out was when the other side was shakink keys in all the wrong corners
but the opponets and the ref noticed and warned these guys...
I would have worked as it was late into the show and the house dog was so far ahead he was ready to go home...

some say he lacked finish but he had nothing left and some say he was A CUR TRAINED TO SCRATCH,,,
maybe so in some eyes but this man s ability to bond with the dogs always gave him the edge and better percentages game CURS,,, lmao...

Scratching on command might work out behind the woodshed; but, you will most def lose in the fast lane calling your dog over.

In all respect this dog was sent and not called to scratch by his handler in the fastest company,,,
but I understanding depending on a person to call the dog in the other corner seems like a last resort...

Pat Patricks wife the redhen? was on this board talking about how Going Light Barney WOULD only scratch into a corner
if Mr.McCaw had a chicken in a cage in the other corner,,,
I call it anothe one of PATS WIVES TALE as everybody knows him as not being honest ...
