Hi I don't really know the best way to ask my question but I'm going to give it a try lol.what makes a Stafford a Stafford? If bred properly the staff is a combat dog the same as the apbt so is there any differences at all? Thanks for your time.

I cant believe no one helped to answer this poor persons question. LOL

What makes a Stafford different is that majority of them are no longer bred for combat while majority of the game bred apbt are still bred for combat.

Yes I beleve so but I'm trying to ask what differences if any there are between the working apbt and the working Stafford thanks to those who replied lol.

There is basically no difference if both are from working stock, the only difference is in the name.

SBT and AmStaff , both are show dogs ,,, what happened in Europe in 1970s ,,was there was only one choice SBT , that is why they ware used ,,,APBTs came to europe in mid/late 1970s ,,and people switched to APBTs,,,,

Thanks dusty road have read some of your post on here you seem to have plenty enough experience on this matter.

  12. Did the sbt come from the Colby line (am staff)?

    No way two different breeds.

  14. staffords will never breed as true in terms of gameness as the apbt, they have been bred for it longer and is more ingrained in their pedigree. when a good stafford turns up it can be competative but the facts are, numbers are few.

  17. No but Colby imported dogs from Ireland which would have came from similar ancestory to the dogs that went on to become pitbulls

and sbt , when looking at the ancestry of these breeds it's just like how Irish, Scottish, Welsh and English people went to America and their progeny became some of the first Americans well it's the same with the old bull and terrier dog's some went on to form the sbt others went on to form the APBT at Times dogs from

  18. From the UK were used in American blood and very rarely vice versa, the amstaff stems from people trying to partially clean up the image of pitbulls and change the name for Show purposes, some dogs were and still are dual registered as APBT and AST and as much as people like a good pedigree On paper real dogmen only care for gameness, ability and if the dog produces game offspring, the history of the bull terrier breeds is complex and really can't be explained in a simple Yes and no format
