IT'S NOW A FEDERAL CRIME FOR YOU TO ATTEND A DOG FIGHT
One piece of good news from the oft-criticized farm bill

"At the first sign of a raid many will blend into the crowd and claim to be spectators to avoid prosecution" • blog.ctnews.com
In news that's slipped beneath the radar but deserving of praise, it is now illegal to attend a dog fight, cock fight, or any other cruel pitting of beast against beast in the United States. It was of course already against the law to host such "games." Opposing Views reports on one important component of the recently passed federal farm bill:

Last Friday President Obama signed the Farm Bill into law, [which] includes a provision making it a federal crime to attend or bring a child under the age of 16 to any animal fighting event.

U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) is credited with successfully working to pass this important legislation. It will also now be a federal crime to be a spectator at an animal-fighting event.

"Cantwell's legislation will fortify the federal law and help law enforcement, quash illegal dog fighting and cockfighting, and forbid adults from bringing children to these spectacles of violence," said Mark Makarian of the Humane Society. "The spectator admission fees and gambling dollars finance these criminal operations and make dog fighting and cockfighting profitable."

Cantwell's been honored by the Humane Society before. In 2012 she received the organization's "Legislative Leader" award for her work in helping to protect endangered apes.

"We thank Sen. Cantwell for her outstanding work to ensure that our federal laws reflect the core humane values and attitudes of American society," said Makarian at the time.

Only way out is to elect a majority in both houses and a president, all in one cycle, that will vote for these three things:

Term limits of 4 years max for any office

Members of congress make whatever the average yearly wage is in the country while they're in office, no lifetime pension

Taking money from anyone for any reason while in office is a capital offense

The money needs to be taken out of politics. These guys should be sacrificing to serve their country, not getting into politics to get rich. If the HSUS wasn't throwing bags of money at these guys I almost guarantee they would find other things to think about.

Dog fighting has been a federal offense for years and now watching a dog fight is a federal offense. It has not stopped dog fighting at all. It's like the war on drugs it's still here.

actually saiy.... depends on the stipulations...... when i was a teenager, i know some folks that ran a trap house...... most of the folks in that house were involved.... except the fat lazy dude that would surf theyre couch... all he did was eat sleep & watch tv there all day....everyday.....infact, never really got his hands dirty...but because of the fact that he was there @ the time of the raid, he ended up catching a 7 year sentence along with the other folks...just for being there........

If a crime is being committed and you are a witness to it and do nothing, you can be charged. Now I don't know if that's every where but it's like that here in Pa.

I hear ya but there's a BIG difference between getting charged and getting convicted and doing 7. I'm sure he was scared and felt like he was guilty of something so he probably made a plea bargain but if he truly didn't get his hands dirty then he should had a decent shot at trial, they have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt. Just because it doesn't "sound right" isn't a reason alone to convict someone. Task force ran up in my friends spot about 6 years ago back in Chicago right after I pulled up to his house and went in and sat down to roll up. I didn't have a license so they made me leave my car there and I walked off, but I walked off. Smaller towns try to stick you with everything they can so I can see getting charged like that in smaller towns but I would have went to jury trial, never a bench trial.
