Any US kennels favoring a terrier-type strain?

Not sure if the bully phenotype is absolutely pre-dominant, but I'm wondering if there are some kennels that have been favoring a more terrier-type over a multi-generation period?

    Thanks!

Get off his back! This actually comes across as an educated post. Back in the days they used to label two types of Staffords; The terrier type and the bull type. On top of that they labelled dogs as being the “middle of the road”.

From a European perspective I have noticed that there are a few US breeders that have bred dogs according to the posters description. The type mainly debated in this forum is the so called working type. There have been extremely few of those that have made their way to the US! Now and then I hear about people having dogs bred down from them. But these dogs are mostly not pure working type, not in my book anyhow…

Thanks. Running a lot of searches, I've been coming to the same conclusion -- the terrier phenotype is either extremely hard to come by or virtually non-existent.

It would be nice to see more terrier type in both SBTs and ASTs instead of bully. But that's what wins in the show ring.
I am so sick of judges awarding overdone dogs when, if you look at the dogs they based the standard on, it isn't correct. I hate fads.

The only nice looking SBTs I have seen in the US are flyball dogs and a lot of the time they are breeding them to other breeds for sport mixes.

Your mouth to God's ears, CrazyK9. And when you talk about this with show breeders, they look at you like you have a penis on your head and regurgitate like automatons, "I breed to the standard."

There are enough of them throughout Europe. We import US dogs to Europe all the time. So what I do not understand is why so few Americans are capable of importing dogs of the type they prefer! There is obviously an interest and a demand in the Working type/Athletic Stafford’s over there.

breeders dont care here in the US about function when it comes to staffords. i breed for my own satisfaction anymore, people are full of shit, are very fake and dont appreciate. im not a kennel

I suppose it boils down to the rule of form over function for what's become essentially a non-working breed. In contrast, Americans import GSDs from European working kennels frequently, and with good cause, given the crazy angulation fads plaguing that breed in the show circles.

Bully, or bullie, as in more bulldog in type (larger head, more stout in body, etc.).

I am surprised Ontherocks didnt correct your terminologies, hence the reason a few members did not understand your question.

Staffordshire BULL Terrier, or StaffyBull.....as opposed to Staffordshire BULLY Terriers or Staffybully? Which one is the right terminology? LMAO

I think he understands the terminology. He was wanting to know if thier were any breeders that bred more to the terrier side of things rather than the bulldog side.At least thats what i think he was askin.Heck i may be wrong to Say.

With regards to both Staffords and to APBTs, I've often heard the same phenotype adjectives (more "bullie" or more "terrier" in type).

The correct term is Bull or Terrier. Its either more Bull or more Terrier. If you look at OnTheRocks post again he even says and I quote>"The terrier type and the bull type".

The term BULLY or BULLIES is a new term invented by people who choose another path from the original APBT
and making it a seperate breed of dog known as BULLY or BULLIES.
