Thought i would share a few photos with you fine folks. I am very into hunting, mostly Archery but I do gun hunt every season as well. This week was my 8 year old daughters turn to start learning the in's and out's of the compound bow. She is very excited to be going with her brother and I into the woods next month for her first time.

I have to pat myself on the back a little as I teach my kids to rely on their form not their peep sights. My Daughters bow is not sighted in at all yet because I want her to learn form before learning to aim. As you can see, She ain't to shabby... lol Keep in mind, this was her first day of EVER shooting a bow.

I couldn't be prouder. She loves it and has taken to it very naturally.

My son is just sick when it comes to Compound bows or Firearms. The kid will put .22 cal sub sonic round in a squirrels eye ball at 50 yards - 30 feet up in a tree, he never takes body shots, only head.

I'd show you mine but why bother lol If my kids shoot like this and I am the only one teaching them well you can imagine my greatness with a Bow or a firearm... lmao

Thanks for taking a look. I encourage all to take a youth hunter with you when you hunt and introduce them to surviving without the convenience of a grocery store.....

Thanks. I always find things to do with them rather than them just sitting in front of a tv or a computer. I find it to be very self satisfying to teach them my interests. They also have their own. My daughter is in advanced gymnastics and my son plays drums and the electric gutiar along with skateboarding. I keep them busy and in turn it keeps them out of trouble.

Only 2 weeks till opening day for archery. I'm pumped, just had my first child, a little girl, in August. Missed Turkey season because of her lol. I look forward to the day she is old enough to go into the wood with me.

Good stuff agk. Seeing the pics reminds me of the "take time to be a dad today" commercials. Thats what i think about when my kids ask me to do sonething with them. From playing doctor with my daughter to football with my son. Never too tired to spend time with my kids. Wont last forever and dont ever want my kids saying i wish my dad did this with me. Keep up the good work agk.

AGK you build your own arrows? And if so, do you enjoy it like Bo Jackson does?? That 30 for 30 on him was a good one.

I don't. We shoot walmart junk for target and easton Axis when in the woods.

My dad always took me hunting as a kid but I swear there wasn't any deer in the woods he use to take me because we never saw shit and he only gun hunted, only for deer. When I turned 18 and moved away I started hunting other species of game and been hooked ever since. I got my first deer when I was 22 and that just made me want to hunt more. At about 26 I bought my first Compound Bow but didn't know anyone who Archery hunted so I had to learn myself. I shot my first deer with a bow that year, damn near in the dark at about 25 yards only using the tip of my broad head as a guide as I couldn't see out of my peep site because it was just too dark. I severed his spine and he dropped like a ton of bricks when I hit him. I was off by about a foot in a half and about a foot too high but it did the trick. I learned from going to Archery ranges here locally that my form is more important than the accuracy of my peep site. Sure as shit, when I got my form right I had to stop practicing so much as I was sending arrows through arrows and it was getting to expensive, I pay like 90 bucks for 6 Easton arrows. Far too expensive to keep wrecking them. I don't practice very much any more and If I do, it's at 40 yards but I would never take a shot that far in the woods however it helped to save my arrows since my groups were still tight, just not so close they hit each other or even worse, go down the shaft of a previously shot arrow still in the target. My Son is at that point now where he costs me a lot of money in arrows so I switched to Walmart junk for target shooting a few years back since they are only like 3$ an arrow. This helped my pocket tremendously. I am for the most part, 100% self taught with a bow. I didn't want my kids to have to do all that work so I teach them to ignore the peep sight and practice form, when your form is right, you put the arrow where you want it to go, sight or no sight. You are correct when you say the younger the better, My son started when he was 6 or 7 with the bow and my daughter at 8 and both picked up good form much faster than I did starting out. Now if I could just get my son to stop hesitating in the woods when he sees a deer and take the damn shot then I can have the satisfaction of witnessing him harvest his first buck... lol I think he gets buck fever real bad. I've killed enough that my heart rate don't raise at all when I pull back on one...lol
